Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
Wondering what you might be reading for February. Wasn't able to make the January meeting but interested in the possibility in future if there was space still.
Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
Thank you for posting information here rather than just PMing in response to queries. It is harder for people considering joining to find out anything about the group and what kind of books you read otherwise.
Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
February's book is Dead Babies by Martin Amis. As it happens, this is quite a short novel, less than 200 pages. Please read it and join us in the Golden Lion on Wednesday February 28, from about 7.30pm. We'll have the books on the table.
Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
I would be really interested in joining- are you still looking for new members?
Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
I'm interested in joining too!
Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
Yes we would welcome both of you. Just come along on the 28 Feb at around 7.30 in the Golden Lion. But only if you've read this month's book, which is Dead Babies by Martin Amis. As it happens, this is quite a short novel, less than 200 pages.
You'll find us because the book will be on our table.

Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
a bump to this thread as we've had a few people leave, so if anyone wants to join a friendly local book group please do turn up.
we meet once a month on the last Wednesday, from 7.30pm in The Golden Lion. This month (next week in fact) we will be discussing 'How To measure a Cow' by Margaret Forster.

Definitely! If you can join us on Wednesday 29 August from about 7.30 in the Golden Lion, we'd be glad to see you. This month's book is "26A" by Diana Evans.

Hi Alice,
Yes, definitely! Our next meeting is Wednesday 27th November at about 7.30/8.0 in the Golden Lion. We're reading Exit West by Mohsin Hamid. It's available in libraries and on Amazon second hand for not very much.
Will you be able to make that date?

Lovely. Yes I can make that date. See you then!
Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
we look forward to welcoming you, Alice!
Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
I'd also be interested in joining. But why not discuss some books by local authors, and maybe see if they can attend. There's a number of authors who live in Sydenham. I've discovered that we're a very arty area. Matthew Sweet, Helen Edwardson, and Greg Watts are some I know of. Perhaps Kirkdale bookshop could get involved,
Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
I think the bookshop has its own book group in fact.
But yes join us if you'd like to!

We run two in fact, including an LGBTQ+ book group and details can be foud on our website. We are also happy to supply the Sydenham Book Group with books should they need any, we can usually get books delivered for the next day.El Cid wrote: ↑13 Nov 2019 23:02 I'd also be interested in joining.
