I am delighted to hear that. We were asked to remove the geranium pots which we have placed there for the last few years to discourage dumping (the land is not our responsibility, but Ladbrokes showed no interest and we were getting blamed for the rubbish there. I am happy to say that the pots worked). We were a bit worried about what they were going to do there, but a cycle rack should be an effective dumping deterrent.

The geraniums were widely admired, so there will be minor disappointment for some.

I had wondered who was responsible for those! Hopefully they'll stay. It would be nice to see the whole building smartened up, including the boarded windows

We were asked to remove them over last weekend, which we accordingly did on Saturday and which, since I had made them very heavy to discourage theft, was damned hard work! Since the strip of land is no longer 'abandoned' I guess the new tenants will be responsible for any beautification on it.

We got some letters throughthe door a few weeks back as we were relatively close by telling us about the application and asking us to respond postively or to object if had any feelings about it. From what I remember today was the deadline for lodging things for/against the application via Lewisham website / emailing them.

As we didn’t get the letter first time round I assume the rejigged application ticks all the boxes/includes all the info needed to be filled etc which appeared for one reason or another to have held up things last time!
Below are the details which were on the letter we got re: responding to the application -
Property Ref: LE/180/30/TP
“Our Ref”: DC/18/105941
Email - planning@lewisham.gov.uk

Can’t remember the exact date so maybe comments closed but think today was the date so anything anyone wants to say who hasn’t get to it! :)

Just heard back from the council. Planning permission was granted to More Yoga on 16th April. I shall email them to see when they are planning on starting works/ aiming to open.

Is this an example of paradox or is it dichotomy ?

Extract from the new decision notice, "This Council determines that prior approval IS NOT REQUIRED for the development
specified in the schedule below and subject to the conditions attached therein." Completely opposite view expressed from last time round.

The only material difference that I can see is the inclusion of a Noise impact and transport impact report - written plainly as a note, possibly by the applicant, and not by specialists.

Glad that a positive outcome has been reached - but another example of the inconsistent approach by our planners

Does that mean More Yoga have decided on a different location? Or are we going to have two

After a bit of research it appears that the applicant is Dragonfly yoga. Therefore there seems to be two different businesses looking to set up a yoga studio on Sydenham Road. Is there that much demand for yoga locally?

Perhaps linked to the dragonfly studio in brockley?

I guess they’ve done their market research. I believe the classes at Puregym are often very oversubscribed. If between them they manage to draw people in from other areas at the weekend then it could be a brilliant stimulus for the rest of the high street.

It's good for Sydenham that there shall be TWO yoga/Pilates studios. I welcome it. I can't think of any other place in London that has two studios quite so close to each other though. I suspect it is possible that they didn't know of each other in the business planning stage. Let's hope there's room enough for both. I have been saying for years to all those who attend my classes that Sydenham High Street is a sleeping giant. Structurally I believe we have a far better high street than Crystal Palace and Forest Hill. What next? Come on Waitrose, it's your time now!

As someone with “skin in the game” it’s good to hear you’re in favour Adam.

It’s true that two sites (or four – if you include the Syd centre and the pure gym) could be in competition: but this can sometimes be good. Paradoxically, clustering of certain shops can often generate more success as people get to know an area as a go-to destination – think Charing Cross for books, Portobello Road for antiques, Hatton Garden for jewellery. Plus, the potential pool of people who would do yoga if there was more/more visible/more attractive provision in their neighbourhood is bigger than the numbers who might do it now.

The big winner in my view could be all the local cafes, benefiting as people coming to the high st to do classes. And it’s a great advert for people to think about filling those empty shops. What's not to like?

Such bad timing for the Calabash of Culture to close when it did. I suspect they'd have been a a beneficiary of new passing trade.
