Hi Annie. I can't help but could ask on another forum who might know. When you say "cable and wireless", do you mean Virgin Media, or which ISP otherwise do you use? It might make a difference.

Hiya Mosy,
not sure what it's all about really,
all it says is Cable & Wireless bluetooth, 2.0 USB EDR Adapter
there are some numbers on the back which are T-002237904802
Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks Annie :D

Well, I don't know if any of this might help as I know nothing about these things. I assume you can't just ask the shop where you bought your new laptop from.

Possibilities. Usual caveat about risk of changing things, as I'd be no help if you needed to do a complete re-install!

If it is a missing or outdated driver, you might find one of the free driver download sites might detect it, such as http://www.quickpcsolutions.org/Drivers ... 1QodmgE8FQ

If it's a synchronisation problem where it's not recognising the corrrect com port, that a diffrent thing from any driver issue it seems.

If you have a bluetooth icon, could try: start > settings > system > bluetooth settings > Activesync over blutooth (START)

Have a look on here to see if any of it looks familiar. Or ask your own question there.

Microsoft Windows Device Centre might help.

Cable & Wireless "Support" menu option has a "contact us" email section you could try in any case.

Best of luck.

Hi again Annie. I asked my son if he had any ideas (his being the whizz kid rather than I) and he mentiond that it was possible that the stick you'd bought might not be compatible with your laptop. That might well be something to consider also. I noticed some sticks regarded themselves as universal in that sense, but I've no idea whether a Cable & Wireless falls into that category.

I was rather hoping someone else might have had a similar problem and might reply as there are so many posts on the Net that it's hard to guess which (if any) might aply. If it were me, I'd probably ask my own question on a suitable site. Aside from the one mentioned above, this one (use the Forums section) is good for we Noobies :) http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/

Well, perhaps don't give up too soon, as if it's a case only of adjusting settings, then I suspect you could well have to do that even with a new stick. You could perhaps ask when contemplating a new purchase just exactly how you would get it up and running.

Put another way, you kinda need to find out why your existing one doesn't want to work before spending hard earned pennies on another one, which might not work either if you've not got some settings right, methinks...
