By the way, internet use is free at the local library, you just need to book yourself a PC for one hour (maximum) in advance. You can take a chance and just turn up and if a PC is free you can reserve it then and there for immediate use, but obviously at busy times you could be waiting a while....

Good question. You can connect to the three website at all times - especially with no credit! I had no problem topping up - until one of my CC (NatWest) changed their verification system to require a visit to the Nat West site. Which you can't of course. Gotcha - until I changed the registered card to a more resonable bank (Co-operative). Or you can go to the Dolphin or Sugahill and do it from there for the price of a drink.

Incidentally it is best to buy the first top-up at a shop and enter it online - as onsite you have to register you CC and wait 7 days before you can use it.

Indeed if you are interested then for the price of another drink - one of us can help you through the initial sign up. Like all these things it can seem very confusing until you have done it.

Mine works fine on Windows XP & Linux! You can get dongles on eBay (and get them unlocked if you want to try with '3', T-Mobile & Vodafone (or use abroad). But the current offer on the three website is pretty good £49.95 when I last looked. Also check out ebuyer.com.

I am surely interested if I have problems signing up. Thanks again for all the info.
