Sydenham people in the early '40's
I am hopeful of geting in touch with all my old friends from Sydenham, mainly the lower Sydenham and Bell Green areas, maybe even some of those next door in Bellingham,or those stalwarts fron the Kangley Bridge Rd. and Worseley Bridge Rd., factory areas Fire watchers, LDV (Look-Duck-Vanish ) and Home Guards .and read of the changes over the years.I found it a warm and friendly place and (mostly!) easy to get along with. Good luck with the site and I wish you every success .Dick Eagle....
My grandfather was Jim Berryman who was born at Willow Walk in 1900,
in the early 30's he and my grandmother Elsie move to a new house at Bellingham but I know for a fact that during the war he was involved in firewatching for the home guard, he used to tell me about an episode involving a flag pole a on the roof of Cheesemans store!
My uncle Dave, Jim's son is still alive and remebers going firewatching with his father he is in his mid 70's and may remember some names.
Jim worked as a a carpenter for Sayers, I think they may have been in Lewisham, if this is any help or you want to know I could ask my mother who has a fantastic memory.
Regards
Steve
