New Shop on the highstreet?

Post by Matt_G »

Does anyone know what the plans are for the empty "Hempire" shop on the High Street? (just up from Newlands Park Rd) There is a bright yellow "Change of Use" notice on the front door and it mentions the the installation of a "Duct" for something or other.

Sounds like yet another fast food place to me....

In answer to my own question, the shop will be converted to "Type A3". So do we think it's going to be the start of the 'Cappuccino effect' in Sydenham or another Kebab place? Answers on a postcard...

This class is designed specifically for restaurants and cafés, i.e. places where the primary purpose is the sale and consumption of food and light refreshments on the premises.

A restaurant whose trade is primarily in-house dining but which has ancillary bar use will be in Class A3. Where the pub or bar activity is a minor component of the business and will not affect environmental amenity, it will treated as ancillary to the primary (restaurant) use of the premises. Such matters will be decided on the basis of fact and degree in each case.

Sydenham needs a bit more variety. A coffee shop serving something free from grease would be magic.
