The annual British Heart Foundation (BHF) sponsored London to Brighton bike ride takes place this Sunday, 15 June.
Southern trains have very limited space for cycles and therefore cannot cater for the number of cycles expected to travel between Brighton and London. Therefore, no cycles (including folding bikes) will be allowed on any Southern train services at any time on Sunday 15 June. Transport arrangements back to London for cycles of BHF registered participants in the bike ride have been made by the BHF. Details of BHF travel arrangements can be found on http://www.bhf.org.
A queuing system for participants with non-folding cycles who are returning to London on the morning of Monday 16th will be in place until the departure of the first available northbound train (09.00).
Because of the limited capacity of trains, a place on a desired service after 09.00 cannot be guaranteed. The queuing system will be in place at Brighton on a first come first serve basis.
No bikes on bike for London to Brighton bike ride
when I was 13 i did the London to Brighton bike ride with my father. He was a mean bvgger and refused to pay for a train from brighton, back to our home in Guildford. He made me cycle the 60-odd miles back from Brighton (total mileage around 120 miles). Some people may call that 'character building' and others may term it 'child abuse'.
As you can imagine, I have little sympathy for cyclists doing the trip next weekend. Grow some doo-daahs (bollo's) and cycle home.....

I did the London-Brighton many years ago. Wonderful sunny but not too hot day. The ride was great but after finishing I had to cycle to Chichester for a bed. Remember collapsing outside a pub (there is a God!). Not much after that. I got back to London the next day. Can't remember how except it wasn't by train ...
The London - Brighton is something to do when you are young. Get the pain behind you and brag about for the rest of your life. Now did I tell you about my Marathon run?
