I'm including these views which come up for sale next as they are often bought/sold as views of crystal Palace.

Image

‘Royal Horticultural Gardens, South Kensington, London. No 62. The Conservatory and the Late Prince Consort’s Monument’

These gardens were laid out behind the 1862 International Exhibition building, where the Natural History Museum now stands. The building itself was demolished and used to build the Alexandra Palace.

The monument still stands, and Albert Hall was built behind the conservatory/greenhouse, which is why they had to add a south porch recently.

Image

‘Royal Horticultural Gardens, South Kensington, London. No 66. Interior of the Conservatory, Looking North."

Again I've seen similar views sold as being of Crystal Palace.

The Musical Intruments Court. Designed by John Thomas, his "Musidora" stands in front.

Image

Nice one of the corner of the Egyprian Court. Note the Victorian in top hat skulking in the background. I have this one on a white mount.

Image

Gives you an idea of Owen Jones' colourscheme for the interior of the Pala's interior.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Early-Tinted-Crys ... dZViewItem

Image

The ever-popular "Mourners" by John Graham Lough outside the French/Foriegn Court.. As you can the white statues provided a contrast to the greenery and brightly painted interior of the Palace.

Image

Interior of the Greek Court.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Early-Crystal-Pal ... dZViewItem

Image

Lovely one of the south side of the Foreign/French court.
"Puck" [V&A] to the left "David" [Walker Art Gallery] to the right, "The Mourners" in the background. All the work of John Graham Lough.

Image

View in the South Transept of the Crystal Palace.

This shows the work of John Bell, from left to right, William Shakespeare, exhibited 1851 Great Exhibition, "Maid of Saragossa" unique to the Palace, "Dorothea" [Bowood House and many Parian copies] "Andromeda" [Osborne House] and "Jane Shore" unique to the Palace and created for the 1844 competition to decorate the new Houses of Parliament.

They plonked "Richard Couer de Lion" right in the middle of these by 1855 - 6 so this must be very early Negretti & Zambra.

These Architectural Courts were designed to enable comparisons to be made between the different periods of civilization.
