Moving to Upper Sydenham - what's the area like?

Post by dazed&confused »

Hi there

I've just put a deposit down on a flat in Longton Avenue in Upper Sydenham, here

The area seems quiet and residential which is what I'm looking for after having a torrid time with crime and noise in Camberwell/Walworth. Sydenham Wells park looks very picturesque and I was quite surprised how 'leafy' the area felt considering how reasonable rents seem to be. I commute to central London on a scooter and it will take me about 35 mins from Sydenham which isn't too bad.

What are your opinions on that area in general?

Thanks
Tom

I have lived in Upper Sydenham for about 4.5 years and its ok actually, residentially anyway. Its close to Crystal Palace for the restaurants (takes about 10-15 mins walk or quicker by bus) which has a large selection. The Woodman Pub near you in Kirkdale has recently been done up well, and is offering food; local restaurant Thats Amore is also very good and busy. Wells Park is a real gem but so is the Sydenham Woods at the top of the hill. Wells Park Road itself is abit of a downer for the area, but its no different from anywhere else in London. Transport is good, buses go from Kirkdale into town or get the train (bus to charing cross takes about 5 mins longer than train). I think the area is up and coming, and has a lot of good points going for it.

Hay dazed&confused,

Well I can confirm that up here is really nice to live. I am in Ormanton Road which is off Longton Avenue lived here all my life, mind you I'm only 32 lol, but family lived up here in the area for generations.

Once you get to know the locals you will have no worries all very friendly and yes Wells Park is cool if you just fancy a chilled out walk.

Hope you enjoy the area and good luck with your move.....Welcome to Sydenham.
