Sydenham Life

Post by KateM »

Do any of Sydenham Town recieve Sydenham Life magazine? It goes into 3,500 homes in St Barts parish.

I would appreciate any feedback and thoughts on the magazine.

It is all done on a voluntary basis - the ads usually cover the cost of printing. The editors, who both work full time do the magazine in their spare time - I know they have to work until the early hours of the morning to get it done!

I source the ads and do find that local businesses are very supportive. The ads are extremely reasonable by the way if there is anyone who wants to advertise!! Starting from £17.50!

We are always looking for ways to improve so any comments very much welcome.
thanks

We don't receive it in the Thorpes - I always pick up a copy when I visit my aunt in Westwood House nursing home. I've always thought that we don't get it because perhaps this end of Sydenham is covered by one of the other CofE churches - but I could be mistaken! I always make a point of reading it and it's very lively and interesting.

I used to enjoy this magazine being dropped through my letter box, however after the front page article last month on how wring gay marriage is, I'm not so happy to see the magazine any more. I found that article very upsetting and offensive. I'm not really sure what the writer was trying to achieve here by using information sourced from w known right wing newspaper and quoting genesis (which I'm sure we can all agree has rules in it which do not apply to modern life, for example being forbidden to eat shellfish and incest being legal) but I found the pice to be simply awful. Why was this published?

Hi Emjay, and welcome to the Forum. I currently have this rather ridiculous Lenten resolve not to comment on local Forums, so I'll limit myself to saying I read the subsequent edition of 'Sydenham Life' this morning, which had a reply to the article you'll be referring to, and it set various thoughts going, so I may respond to this next week - or check your PMs for my contact details to discuss further.

Thanks for your message - I did begin writing a reply to the magazine only to remember why I chose a sciences degree over English!
