NYD takeaway recommendations - urgent

Post by alywin »

A Happy New Year to one and all, and may 2016 be a better year for you than 2015 was!

We were supposed to be going out for a family meal this evening, but one of our party seems to have eaten something which has disagreed with him, and doesn't feel up to going out yet, so we're thinking about getting a takeaway instead. Can anyone recommend something nice in the Sydenham/Penge area, please? Under the circumstances, I think we'll give spicy etc. cuisine a miss, so that rules out Indian, Thai, Jamaican etc. If you know that the place is open today, that would be even better, of course - as it would if they happen to do nice desserts as well :)

I noticed on my trip back from Sainsbury's that Friends of Flavours does takeaway - I'm not sure of what, exactly - so that's a possible. Other recommendations for places which do nice food, as opposed to the local chippy/kebab shop etc., would be most welcome.

Thanks!

I can't help with suitable takeaways. Pizza takeaways/delivering are likely to be open. Selim's kebab shop just west of Newlands Park do excellent salads as well as their skewer and doner kebabs.

Or why not cook something? PFC has a fresh meat counter so you could make chicken breasts either poached in stock, finished in a (bottled?) sauce or wrapped individually in foil with herbs, lemon juice and spot of white wine or water, baked in oven, then served with spud or pasta or rice and whatever veg you fancy like cherry toms, mush, leek etc which PFC has). Or a minced lamb hotpot starting with onion, cumin, tin of toms and flavourings. At least you'd know what you're eating if someone needs bland (not fatty or oily) food for now. They also have a sweet baclava type bakery counter. Tesco next door has its usual fare. Happy noshing.

Thanks, mosy. It would have been too late to go and do shopping by then, as my guests were just about to turn up, anyway. In the end, we managed to order pizzas from Pomodoro, which I think is in Crystal Palace? They were very superior pizzas compared with most takeaways :) I would have tried Tratt Raf, but got a message that they were closed, I think until the 7th.
