Posts on the high street?

Does anyone know what purpose two new posts that have appeared on the high street serve? One is outside Desire and the other on the corner of Siverdale and the high street. They are about 8 ft high and all they have on them are smell metal boxes with yellow tape on them. They are not CCTV cameras. There are loads of posts on the high street as it is, some for parking restriction signs and some for directional signs, and it seems a bit excessive to have two more just to mount these little boxes on.

I haven't noticed that yet, but have you seen the enormous telephone box/advertising hoarding outside Lidl? It halves the amount of pavement! Absoulutely ridiculous!

I have seen similar posts before which are used for environmental reasons, i.e they record the amount of exhaust in the air etc? Could it be for this purpose?

Ive countd six now and they dont look as if the boxes are set up to record pollution levels. They are mostly on the north side of the high street, there is one outside The Hair Company, appears to have some sort of ariel.
