This postcard is currently for sale on Ebay under "Old London postcards - Southend Lane Sydenham c.1899". I've seen a few old photos of Southend Lane from that era and knowing the road well I can always immediately recognise the exact spot where they were taken, even back then it looked a busy thoroughfare mostly lined with dwellings. This one, however, has me completely beaten. It looks far too quiet, rural and the road is much narrower than on any other old photos I've ever come across. Is it genuine or are they mistaken?
Southend Lane?
Re: Southend Lane?
Yes Maestro
Amazing how an area can go down the plug hole in only 115 years. Another age.
I believe it was simply a small lane connecting farms and Sydenham and London to Hastings Road.

This could be the lower end of the lane at Bell Green, just past the railway bridge, Fir Hill House to the left, here is a map dated 1864.
