Any news on this? It seems a long time ago that we first heard about their planning application for the buildings near the DIY shop.
Poppy - you are clearly someone who cares passionately about the high street and SE26 judging from your very many postings on the site. Why not focus that passion into putting theory into practice by getting involved locally in Regeneration Meetings or with the Sydenham Society in progressing local planning applications?
You'd then be able to tell others what's going on.

Nasaroc. Witin weeks of moving here (18 months ago) I joined the Sydenham Society, and sent a very long email to the town centre manager with ideas for the high street (they were being asked for in the newsletter) some of which seems to have happened since, eg. the BMC opening up here. I suggested contacting businesses in ED to see if they would be interested in opening up branches here (with background info I had observed in seeing the area evolve into what it is now). I know someone at the bookshop was credited with getting BMC here in the end so I don't know if my email had a direct impact or not.
I attended the regen meeting last year, where there were group discussions and really enjoyed that and found the guy from Living Streets and the consultants really lively and enthusiastic, but I then attended another more formal one and was really disappointed. It was dreary with little opportunity for feedback and the guy from Lewisham who is in charge of this whole scheme it seems just seems really lacking in enthusiasm - I do wonder if any of this will come to fruitian. I reported on meetings like that for a couple of years when I started out as a reporter and it brought back bad memories I am afraid.
An example of a suggestion I have made in the past which seems to have fallen on deaf ears is using some of the locality fund to smarten up the Narborhood centre as it is a prominent building - just replacing the often messed up net curtains with vertical blinds.
But I will, if I can, attend the one in March as hopefully things will have moved on a bit since then.

Must be the time of year! But I think, we're all far too sensitive. I'm politely but firmly asking a question which I believe needs to be answered occasionally by individuals posting regular advice on this forum as to how we change SE26 - you've got lots of ideas (and I agree with 95% of Poppy's postings) but what are you actually doing about these ideas.
Poppy is wise enough to answer for herself and she has done so.
I hope I've not been impolite or unpleasant - if so, I apologise. But I believe these are questions that need to be answered.
Change in our locality needs to be about ideas (which is why STF is so important) but it also needs to be about committed action, otherwise it's all hot air.

Good answer Nasaroc. It seems nowadays people do get abit sensitive about things. It is however so important for people to realise that hot air alone does'nt necessarily change things, but more proactive action does. We all have opinions, but its so easy to sit back in our arm chairs and just spout them out, while Rome burns around us. I'm the first to admit i'm like that myself! This forum, annoying at times, is also good for people to get involved, and its a real asset to the community!
let's face it, if you're posting on here, you're probably "involved" in sydenham in some way.
I'm involved in the CP regeneration debate, and also fire off the odd email to potential investors, inviting them to consider coming to the high street.
But ultimately (like other posters) I, well, do have a life - which doesn't always involving sitting in draughty church halls discussing the finer points of urban planning legislation.
So I'm going to leave the high street consultation to others...
