The Shop Revolution Marketplace, 167 Sydenham Road

Post by louisecbrooks »

Hi All

We quietly opened our doors on Friday because we wanted to settle ourselves in. We're now ready to tell you that we are indeed open and would love to have you stop by. Thanks to those who have already stopped by and been so lovely and complementary. We are testing our model at the moment so all feedback is welcome.

For those of you that don't know, The Shop Revolution Marketplace (TSR Marketplace) is a curated indoor market, coffee shop and events space. We work with local producers, suppliers, designers and makers who focus on the quality and integrity of their produce. Our current traders are Miss Victoria's Floral Emporium and Aga's Little Deli who has set up a cheese counter. Our coffee is from Bermondsey roaster Jack Coleman. Over the next couple of weeks we will add to our offering with a range of gifts and groceries.

The menu is by Shona from Nunhead's The Dish and the Spoon, and on the menu today we have a very warming butternut squash soup with chilli and coconut; courgette, tomato and mature cheese tart; rare breed ham and salad plate; and think cut pork sausage with red onion ciabatta.

Our opening hours this week are:
Sunday (today) 11-4
Wednesday 10-6
Thursday 10-6
Friday 10-6
Saturday 10-6

Next weekend we intend to have a proper launch weekend. We are still working out what that will entail so I will announce it early in the week.

Sounds wonderful - I'll pop in during the week. Meanwhile, I was wondering if your florist trader would consider doing wreaths and suchlike for Christmas? I like something a bit more creative than the standard holly or fir wreath, and usually end up going to East Dulwich or Beckenham to get one. Would be lovely to be able to support a local maker and business instead.

I popped in today.

It's an intriguing set-up: coffee shop (with some nice cakes), market stalls (deli and flowers) and events (lots of things listed on the display boards.

I thought the water provided with my coffee and cake was a nice touch. It's standard in many countries but rarely offered in the UK.

Definitely worth a visit!

Thanks biscuitman1978 for the very nice review.

Rachael, Miss Victoria's Floral Emporium will start selling a range of wreaths this weekend to coincide with our official launch. She is also running a wreath making workshop Sunday 13 Dec from 2-4pm @ £45pp. You can pop in to book or drop her an email at missvictoriasfloralemporium@gmail.com.

I'll update this post later with our confirmed plans for the official launch this weekend (we will still be open from Weds-Fri this week ahead of the weekend) and a full list of events in the run up to Christmas.

So here's some news about our official launch at the weekend. *Despite it being our official launch we are still open tomorrow, Thurs and Fri so feel free to pop in for a coffee, bit of cake, some Neal's Yard cheese or a bunch of flowers.

On Saturday (from 10-6) we will have a range of our treats for you to sample including Christmas cake and mince pies. Aga will have cheeses and chutney, and some of her fabulous wines for you to taste; all are available on order for your Christmas festivities. And Miss Victoria will have some of her wreaths for sale, or again you can order in. We will also be providing details of our gift hampers.

Meanwhile for your small people there will be Christmas biscuit decorating all day.

On Sunday (from 11-4), we will launch our gift range, with a small selection from Pen & Gravy (http://penandgravy.tumblr.com/), One We Made Earlier (http://www.onewemadeearlier.bigcartel.com/) and N'Damus (http://www.ndamus.com/) among others. To accompany your shopping, complementary mulled cider will be on offer. This coincides with the annual craft market over at Trattoria Raffaele so plenty to keep you busy in our neck of the woods. I think there is also something on at Grow Mayow but I'll confirm that later.

Once again Christmas biscuit decorating will be in full swing.

Just a wee reminder that its our official launch this weekend. Tomorrow we have complementary fizz for big folk, and Christmas biscuit decorating for small folk. We have plenty of festive tasters on the counter, and of course Aga's selection of cheeses and chutneys. We also get our delivery of Balthazar Boulangerie bread first thing so stop by for a range of sourdough breads, and fabulous pastries.

On Sunday we'll have complementary mulled cider to launch our gifts range. Christmas biscuit decorating will still be on the menu. We've just taken delivery of products from Pen & Gravy, One We made Earlier and Paula McGurdy (http://paulamcgurdy.com).

And our special for brunch is beans and pulled pork on sourdough toast. Or of course you could always stop by for one of Aga's legendary cheese toasties.

Upcoming events at the shop are as follows:
- 5 Dec, Raclette night with Aga @ £25 pp from 7pm *Pre booking required
- 6 Dec, Festive Family Day, 2-5pm, with Shinta from Once Upon A Storytime: Christmas stories, face painting and crafts @ £2/child
- 12 Dec, Sparkling evening with 161 (Kirkdale). When I have more details I'll post them
- 13 Dec, Wreath making workshop with Miss Victoria @ £45 pp *Pre booking required

Stop in to book, or drop us an email at team@theshoprevolution.co.uk.

Look forward to seeing some of you drop by at the weekend.
