Press Release- 06/10/2014

A public consultation on the future of the National Sports Centre complex and the wider Greater London Authority controlled site within Crystal Palace Park has been launched by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. The proposals include options around the potential location of a two form entry primary school within the wider GLA site.

Crystal Palace Primary School (CPPS) – a new school scheduled to open in September 2015 – has been working with the Education Funding Authority (EFA) to assess the potential for local identified sites and building as future locations for the school. This process continues, but CPPS can confirm that the wider GLA site within Crystal Palace Park is the preferred location for the school. CPPS will now be undertaking, in conjunction with the EFA, more detailed assessments and investigations to determine whether the site will be feasible from design, programme, financial and logistical viewpoints.

Margaret Peacock, Chair of CPPS said “we are thrilled at the possibility of the school being located in the wider GLA site within Crystal Place Park. It is a fantastic location that aligns perfectly with the ethos of our school, and is a place with an incredible sporting heritage. There is a lot of work to be done to determine whether the location options are feasible, but we are excited to be able to consider a site with such great potential.”

The GLA public consultation is available on line and runs from 6 – 31 October. CPPS will also be launching a statutory consultation process regarding the school within the next few weeks.

Notes for Editors

The Mayor’s Greater London Authority has responsibility and control of a defined area housing the National Sports Centre and associated facilities and grounds within Crystal Palace Park.
The Greater London Authority public consultation documents include three options for the inclusion of a two form entry primary school on the wider GLA owned site.
CPPS was approved as part of the Wave 6 applications to the Free Schools Programme, and is scheduled to open in September 2015.
