WEDNESDAY NIGHT IS PARTY NIGHT #rebuildthegreyhound

Post by admin »

This Wednesday 1st October 2014 marks the 10th anniversary and approaching 100,000 posts on Sydenham Town Forum. You are all invited to a very special night out to celebrate and support Sydenham simultaneously. This will feature*

+ A chance to be on TV
+ Meet the Press
+ Mingle with Sydenham's Glitterati
+ Watch Lewisham's makers and shakers in action
+ All led by a knight of the realm
+ Free beer by Purelake

Be ready at 5.30pm for the 5.45pm show and 6pm opportunity to see what breaks in the open public council meeting. Feel free to bring your own placard showing your appreciation of Purelake's performance so far.

There is the Catford Civic Suite (right beside Lewisham Town Hall and opposite Lawrence House). Afterwards a pub with a real roof and serving real beer. Taste the future!

Spread the news, bring a friend, bring anyone. If you can't make it - follow every move on Twitter live from the Mayor and Council Show @sydenhamtown #rebuildthegreyhound and don't forget to sign the petition. We want a 1,000 by Wednesday:

I'm afraid I can't make it because of work commitments.

Good luck though. I know you'll smash it!

Quote from Sydenham.org.uk report:
"He [mayor] said further legal action would come. The matter was being referred to the legal team who would come up with a plan at the next council meeting on the 22nd. So while nothing concrete happened last night – the Mayor and the Council now know this is an issue that will not go into the long grass and will become politically hotter if they don’t sort or get Purelake to sort pretty quickly."

Forgive my ignorance, is the council meeting on 22nd open to to the public?

It is indeed. More details will appear at http://councilmeetings.lewisham.gov.uk/ ... 9&MId=3425 in the week before the meeting.

Incidentally, a formal record of the decision made on the Greyhound last night is now available at http://councilmeetings.lewisham.gov.uk/ ... 3424&Ver=4 (item 3).

Gosh that was quick - minutes usually take ages... (or maybe I can just never find them).

On a diary point, the minutes refer to a 23rd Sept meeting rather than 22nd?

Edit PS. Forgot to say thank you *hangs head*

I suspect that's a typo, but it would be great if you could email the committee clerk to check.

News Shopper's coverage of last night's proceedings is now at http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/11511 ... enham_pub/

E-mail sent to Ken Flaherty to clarify correct date. I'll post further following a reply.
This quote from the minutes worries me slightly:

"(c) a response be provided to the Sydenham Local Assembly including updated legal advice and reporting all efforts made by the Council towards securing the rebuilding of the Greyhound."

Let's hope that the report of "all efforts made" aren't deemed the limit and that future efforts they could make are identified.

I've received email confirmation that the correct date for the next Mayor and Cabinet meeting is indeed 22nd Oct. The Agenda and Decisions list has been amended thus.

The draft minutes are expected to be published later today.
