Apparently its growing on crystal palace park road and affecting some of the houses eg Agate House .

Can anyone shed some light re the extent of the problem please.

I thought it was knot weed , but what do I know !!!!! knot wood seems even worse.

I have no idea of Japanese Knotweed's extent on CP Park Road. I know it's on the EU's list of invasive non-native plants that cost a fortune to eradicate once they've taken hold, so for more info of a general nature, there's loads online.

If you are asking about how it's eradicated, or how to eradicate it, a specialist company ought to be able to help. I doubt spraying or dipping it with systemic weedkiller would make much difference if it's taken hold.

However my daughter has just bought a flate in Agate house and
has been told that there is Japanese knotwood being treated in the vicinity.

I was only having a smile at you being so far away from the problem.
When you buy a property from someone they have to declare if there is a knotweed problem, if there is a problem and it wasn't declared I would get on to the solicitor that she used for the purchase.

Good for you, I'm sorry it didn't work out for your daughter, Sydenham is a nice place with mainly nice people in it, I hope your daughter finds somewhere else to her liking there.

Backing out? Isn't that a little extreme? Or is it some sort of massive infestation? (And no, I'm not taking this lightly: a neighbour and I fought the blasted stuff for some years before we got it eradicated. It's a great nuisance, certainly, but I do think some people overreact to it these days - like the building society which allegedly refused a mortgage because of its presence).

There are some previous posts on this if you search under knotweed - I've copied one of my previous responses below:

I learned a lot about this recently as we were looking at buying a property where it was found in the garden.

It is treatable, and there are professional firms that do this - just cutting it down yourself is a big no-no and will exacerbate the problem (and is illegal)

There are plenty of scare stories around if you do your googling - however do be aware that mortgage lenders treat it as very high risk, and some will just not lend if it is found within 7 metres of your house - this includes on a neighbouring property.
