Stereoviews of the Crystal Palace by Negretti & Zambra
This is really a report on the sets of labels and descriptions on the back of stereoviews.
No snickering from “macleanmuir.”
This is because stereoscopic images were reissued in different sets, as well as printed up as single images.
There is potential till the end of time, for unknown or missing views to surface.
Who knows, a reader of this forum may hold some missing link?

Description from the back of one of this alternate set of Crystal Palace Art Union views.
Negretti and Zambra issued stereoviews of the Palace in daguerreotype, paper, glass, tissue. There are even more kinds of mounts I am aware of.
I am going to focus on the first numbered set of views by Negretti and Zambra.
The mounts are ivory/cream sometimes called tan.
Some examples seem to go pink with age.
During the period this set was published, N&Z switched to yellow mounts, with the same printed number and description on the back.
A later set was issued, with the same numbering and description, by a pasted on label, with bugs in the corner.
Another set, presumably later still was issued with these same labels but with the ends cut off, they are hand-numbered, but these numbers do not correspond with the previous list.
These are then followed by yellow mounts completely without any description or numbering.
The last set issued by Negretti and Zambra, again without numbering or description, are on a grey mount, with a snazzy brand of “Negretti & Zambra, similar to the same on photographs of members of the public.
1. "THE NAVE, looking towards the North. The length of the Nave is 1608 feet; its width, 72 feet; and its height, from the floor to the top of the arch, 104 feet."

Well I've just read the Treadwell list you sent me.
Not sure what to make of it. The Americans continue to conflate the Great Exhibition, and the Crystal Palace. No doubt it contributes to their bidding so much for "Crystal Palace 1851."
I'm no expert on the Great Exhibition, but it was more of a commision with goverment patronage. The Crystal Palace at Sydenham was the property of a private company. The granting of permission to photgraph would be a completely differnt proposition I would have thought.
The title "Crystal Palace" comes from a Gaelic fairy tale, a dig by the magazine Punch, that the whole thing was a bit sillier than the earnest presentation of the Great Exhibition, necessary of course to allay the fears of such an unprecedented [in scale] public gathering, so soon after omens of revolution.
They do love T. R. Williams, don't they, he seems to be given credit for nearly every stereoview. It was early days in terms of the publishing of photography, so I imagine it was an incestuous situation, I just read on Wikipedia that N&Z commissioned a series of views from Francis Frith, about the time he would have been ideally placed to buy the "knock off" negatives of the 1859 Delamotte prints!
I long ago got sick of seeing so many images of the architectural courts. We only see what people at the time bought, and took away with them. Going by the amount of copies of #1 view, it must have sold 10 to 1 against all the rest. And what of the large prints for sale at the N&Z stand? No doubt pride of place in some Great Exhibition collection. "And this is of the expo in Hyde Park, don't you love the figures of Aboo Simbel."

YELLOW MOUNTED STEREOVIEWS.
As I have stated above there are varying degrees of overlap with all the different series of mounts for stereoviews by Negretti and Zambra.
The series of yellow-mounted stereoviews, with descriptive labels with bugs in the corners on the back of series, matches the descriptions on the cream mounted views.
A later series again, occasionally uses the same labels, with the ends bearing the bugs cut off, and handwritten numbering. There are also yellow-mounted stereoviews with plain backs, but the same shape and size of image.
These last two series seem to match the list below, which I have illustrated with what examples I know of. There are some to add after I have cropped them out of scans of job lots.
I don’t know that I would use some of the descriptions listed.
