Google street view of Syd. Rd. out of date

Post by mosy »

I notice that Sydenham Road was photographed in 2012, so before the major road and pavement renovations including removal of excess street furniture and provision of on-street shopping parking bays.

As the Council has made a considerable monetary investment, it is a pity it is not reflected, especially given it might be a starting point for potential trades or customers before bothering to investigate first hand.

I assume the renovations are now complete, or substantially so, therefore does anyone know if Lewisham Council or maybe Sydenham Society could request that Google update their street view?

If Google were to agree (they can't leave old pics up forever), perhaps shopkeepers could be notified in advance of the due date and we could all wear our Sunday best for the "royal" visit :)

Good point well made. Yes - since the high street is looking considerably better than it used to, this needs to be reflected.

I'm not sure where I can purchase a 'Sunday best' but I'll be sure to iron a shirt and don a new pair of trousers for the occasion.

You could request an update: https://support.google.com/maps/answer/ ... ic=6002888

(I just reported it as an issue using the example of the new pocket square at Venner Road

I've reported the whole road as "Please update", starting from Kirkdale approaching the revised roundabout and citing traffic flow changes including those arising from the pocket squares (now block-ends), as well as the improvements of course.

Auto response was that if Google have violated their policies they'd act. Email auto response is, paraphrased, thanks, we get tons of requests... so I'm not holding my breath for a further communication any time soon. Fair enough as doubtless they do, and I'm a file-and-forget toothless individual.

It ain't Google's fault that they scanned Syd. Rd. a year too early - back to Pretty Please by someone or body with teeth?

I reported a mis-sited business when we moved in to our house (it said our house was a business and it isn't). It was removed from Google Maps in about 2 weeks. Of course that's easier than sending a car to drive up and down the road but they do listen

That's the difference though isn't it? You told them something was wrong, and from memory correcting errors, blurring of faces, number plates, redacting buildings etc was pretty quick even when it first came in, whereas why should they change something for just being out of date? Have to persuade them...

Everything is out of date the second after Google takes photos, so what's the impetus to get them to re-photo? Possibly being dominated by a TFL traffic route, or Lewisham Council advising them that it's "not fair" to not update when it's a whole street? It's only one street in world terms after all so what (or who) could make it count as not only worthwhile but essential?

I've flagged the Venner Road issue with them a couple of times, but they haven't fixed it yet. :(

But to Google's credit they did approve a change I suggested to road names: the stretch of Kirkdale from the railway bridge to Cobbs Corner roundabout was wrongly labelled as Sydenham Road. That's now been fixed. If only Bing maps would listen too...

I had another look to view Lower Sydenham. I see that 2012 was before the new trading centre came about, the streetview showing Sainsbury's, the gasworks and the dug-up road.

Again, not an error, just out of date.

It's not like asking for a camera-van every five minutes - just a one-off camera-van update covering major changes on the whole route.
