Re: Local Train Services
Note this is only weekdays. The usual crush will occur on Saturdays. They really need to make that 4 an hour too.

Re: Did you vote?
I said she was very visible because she was. She frequently turned up to community events in Penge at the weekend and was always friendly and open to conversations. She lives in Clock House so we were on her doorstep and she would wander down, sometimes with her children. I can only comment on my ...

She was my local MP till the boundary changes. She's superb. Friendly, bright, engaging and very visible. If Liam is half as good we will be pleased over in Penge

Re: Who is going to win Beckenham & Penge?
I'm not sure I agree - the Lib Dems have councillors in Beckenham Town and Labour doesn't. The LDs have a good local councillor in Beckenham Town (Chloe) who was their candidate for the whole constituency but people will have recognised this was a two horse race and many would have voted Labour to ...

Re: Who is going to win Beckenham & Penge?
My prediction, based on the seven wards of Beckenham and Penge constituency: Penge - strong Labour Anerley - strong Labour Clock House - Labour Shortlands - Tory West Wickham - Tory but good showing by Reform Beckenham Town - Labour but with good showing by LDs Eden Park - Marginal Labour Low 000s ...

Re: Did you vote?
The thing about local councillors is that many aren't really political. The colour of the rosette isn't always a reflection of their world views. Some people just want to crack on and get things done and backing of a political party is often just a convenient way of getting elected.

Re: Planning application for 18-storey tower block (and more) in central Penge
The new application is for 16 storeys. The only significant other difference from the previous plan, which garnered about 800 online comments, mainly negative, was that this plan includes 2 stairwells. Quite how we can trust a developer that, despite Grenfell, thought they could get away with an ...

Re: Boundary commission - Sydenham to combine with Dulwich
Missed that bit MikeJ, thanks. So there is hope, but the idea of Beckenham being a marginal is something I'm struggling to get my head around :? That's why the name is so wrong. It's Beckenham and Penge. It's Penge (and Anerley and Clock House) that makes it marginal. Left to its own devices ...

The Alexandra - Fund to keep it going
Hi As many of you know this great pub is only yards from the border with Sydenham and serves many of you in normal times. Due to lockdown though, it is currently struggling to survive. It is truly independent and has no pub company to subsidise it. It would be a tragic loss to the community. If you ...

It opened today. Looks like a local rival to Lidl and Aldi. Mix of big brands and smaller ones and selection of fruit, veg, etc plus household products. It's run by the Penge Food Centre people

Re: Mural?
I can't comment on Sydenham but the street art in Penge has been co-ordinated by a single individual who lives locally - Steve of London Calling blog. His efforts have been widely supported by the local community and he has effectively quality controlled the work that is everywhere with both artists ...

Re: What's happened to the Crooked Billet?
It looks just like the Pawleyne further down, which is not surprising as they are both run by Craft Union (an Enterprise Inns subsdiary). The Pawleyne is very busy these days and tbf seems a slightly mre pleasant place to go.

Re: Petition. Lewisham isn't working: end the directly-elected mayoral system now
I wish this campaign every success, BUT if Bromley is anything to go by, it won't make much difference. Bromley doesn't have an elected mayor, but similarly to Lewisham, everything is sorted by the Tory leader of the council and his cabal, and the general council meetings are rather a sham ...

Re: Rolling Stones in Sydenham
Bill Wyman was brought up by his aunt in Penge. His autobiography makes much of the formation of the group and the bonding (or otherwise) between members. If he was aware of a Penge connection with Mick I would have thought he would have mentioned it. But I don't remember any mention. Mind you its ...
