Re: SAF 2014 - Coming Up This Week: Part One!

Hi

Do you know if tickets for Carmen will be available on the night? I'm trying to get some friends to go too, but will probably be a late decision for them.

Thanks

Cross Rail 2

I've just received an update from TFL regarding Crossrail 2 (the link from Wimbledon through to Seven Sisters/Tottenham Hale). The original proposal had this stopping at Dalston Junction so that the Overground would interchange, allowing us in SE London to easily connect to central London via this ...

Re: Bus stop by Sydenham station/Kirkdale

Hi Rachael - I don't think so. As far as I could/can see there is no work going on in that area at the moment and certainly when I've been returning home in the evenings there is very little traffic using Kirkdale. One of the most frustrating aspects is that there isn't a targetted end date put on ...

Bus stop by Sydenham station/Kirkdale

Does anyone have any information on when the bus stop that serves Sydenham Station/Kirkdale (E) will reopen? I've already complained to TFL* that it currently has a Not in Use hood on it with a sign saying it will be closed from 14 Jan 2013 due to roadworks. However, there are no roadworks going on ...

Re: Will you use the new Greyhound Pub?

I'm really looking forward to the Greyhound (re)opening. Currently, I tend to drink with mates in Forest Hill (and occasionally CP) where as mentioned above it is easy to pop into (crawl to) the Hob/Capitol/Sylvain/Bird/Forresters etc depending on how you feel on the evening..! The closest I've ...

Re: Relocating to Sydenham

Hey Dan I moved up here over 10 years ago and have spent a good 8 of those in Forest Hill and Sydenham. As most have pointed out, in London you generally get both good and 'bad' areas right next to eachother. I do find though that this particular part of SE London (Honor Oak Park through to Crystal ...

Re: BAKERLOO LINE COMING TO LOWER SYDENHAM?

I thought the DLR used totally a different track and so any extension would be new track being laid down (rather than replacing existing mainline routes); or as I thought more likely, an extension that ran above ground on stilts like at Canary Wharf?

Re: BAKERLOO LINE COMING TO LOWER SYDENHAM?

Blimey! That would be great news for Sydenham if it happens, and a Bakerloo interchange at NCG would be very welcome (for this Kirkdale Villager TM)! 8)

Is it only the 202 bus that currently connects Sydenham to Lower Sydenham train stations?

Re: bomb perhaps ?

Fascinating stuff, Alib. Thanks for posting (both as an interest piece and as a 'warning'). It's a relief that you (and the other dog walker) found it and not some curious kid/teenager or otherwise who may have taken it home to tinker with... I imagine they were aiming for the railway tunnel to ...

Re: Bus Stop - Customer Info/Bus Countdown - Cobbs Corner

OK, replying to my own post: It seems from looking on SE23.com that the above list is definitive: If a bus-stop is not listed then it means that it will not have a countdown board. Therefore, from what I can see, the bus-stop at the round-about between Kirkdale and Dartmouth Rd will have its ...

I would also like to vouch for Carrie at Plummy Plumbers: fast response to the message I left, came out early, reasonable rates, very nice lady and I wouldn't hesitate to leave her alone in my flat whilst I get off to work.

Re: Bus Stop - Customer Info/Bus Countdown - Cobbs Corner

That's great news, Dan (if it goes ahead).

However, it's a bit confusing as the document is undated and also lists bus stops at Forest Hill Station/London Rd that have had the countdowns for years already?

I particularly like: 17 - Modern, a 'statement', unique, engaging (you keep going back to explore the artwork) and timeless. 53 - I can really picture this on that space. Interesting and engaging with the timeline. Perhaps will be dated in a few years though. 60 - Different, interesting and green ...

Forest Hill Delivery Office

I've received a Fee to Pay card but it states the opening hours are only till 1300 on weekdays. However, last year (late November I think) the sorting office was open in the evening (but perhaps only on certain days) as I popped in on the way back from work one evening to pick up a parcel. Any idea ...

Re: Snowing again / Trains / Travel

I'm not long back either - only took 2.5hrs from Leics Sq! No trains at all from Charing X, so tried the tube. At Whitechapel I learnt that the Overground was only running to Surrey Quays apparently, but then some appeared heading to New Cross Gate. At NXG we were eventually told by staff that an ...

Snowing again / Trains / Travel

It's snowing really heavily in central london at the moment (and has already settled about 2inches outside my office). Can people please update this with what it's like in Sydenham (especially any impact on train and bus) as I'm concerned I may be stranded in town tonight!

Cheers

Re: Any gay bars in Syd/FH?

This thread seems to have become somewhat hijacked (and even seedy) with concerns that gay men want to force their sexuality down everyone else's throat, mince around or only want to go out to find casual sex..?! Now, in my original post I said about pulling in a lighthearted way and perhaps that ...
