Yep, I found that out today but, to be fare, it seems they don't have the right equipment.
Overground stations should be able to add the discount entitlement but Sydenham (and Forest Hill I think) can't. I'll get it added at a tube station or at London Bridge.

Oyster PAYG discount for rail card holders
This may be old news to many but I've only just become aware of the fact that if you have a rail card (including Gold Cards) you can get 1/3 off off-peak Oyster PAYG fares and the off-peak price cap.
You just need to get your discount entitlement loaded on to your Oyster card.

To considerable effort, we removed what we consider to be the unpleasant blue paint from the tiles on the lower part of the former Woodman Pub.

Could you give us an idea of prices?
At Perry Vale they wanted £45 for a 5ft tree. Seems a bit steep to me.

You can get real time bus departure information for the route/area/stops of your choice here:

Useful from a phone if you have a decent browser on it. Also, useful for spot checks on reliability if you're that way inclined.

I think the plans look fine.
I'd prefer to see development than buildings left to rot. There's way too much of that already.
It's not an ideal world let alone an ideal Sydenham.

Re: Mermaid chippy & Kirkdale Express drycleaners
Tim, your statement on trans fats is a bit misleading in my opinion. The FSA reassurance is based on the average intake across the population not being deemed a risk. However, there is inevitable variance in consumption in different sections of the society. Also, the accuracy of the measures used in ...

Re: Mermaid chippy & Kirkdale Express drycleaners
We don't eat fish and chips very often but we use the Mermaid occasionally and have always enjoyed the food.
My only criticisms (and these apply to chippys in general) are that there is no information on the sustainability of the fish sourcing, the choice of fish is very limited and if it's not ...

I'm pleased to say that having a cup of tea and little lie down has restored my liberal compass so I'd like to retract my comment about deporting Sir Cliff.

Re: My take on London's Riots
Just to keep perspective - according to another Daily Mail article "more than one in three people living in London were born outside Britain". If you believe both stats you may conclude that foreign born nationals are actually more law abiding and setting a better example than "true Brits". Now ...

Re: Cyclist mows down Sydenham pedestrian
I'm in agreement with michael. Cycling on pavements is wrong. Cycling the wrong way down one way roads is wrong. Cycling through red lights is wrong. All of these endanger or inconvenience pedestrians. I see this daily and would have been injured on many an occasion if I hadn't been sufficiently ...

Re: Longer trains from Sydenham to London Bridge
Moving the 17:21 forward will affect things. Either way, unless I'm missing something, there will be no net gain in carriages between 17:00 and 19:00. I'm struggling to see that as an improvement.
Also, it's sad that if a train doesn't have people standing up it's deemed to have "low passenger ...

Re: Longer trains from Sydenham to London Bridge
Actually, it mainly means more overcrowding on the 17:36
I disagree. A lot of people, like me, choose to take the 17:25 as it's a lot less crowded than the 17:21.

Re: Longer trains from Sydenham to London Bridge
Presumably you mean the 17:25 and 18:24 michael.
That sucks. The 17:25 is actually pretty busy these days. Admittedly not all seats are taken but there are way more than a couple of carriages of people on there. That means more crowding on the 17:21.

Well I think I've done my bit and I've already loss sleep worrying about it (I guess I'm not so brave after all), so I'll leave it there, knowing someone in authority has been given the information and he must do with it what he will.
