Re: Penge Homebase closed - now Bunnings warehouse
I worked on Focus DIY years ago on their packaging and branding, but they struggled to sell the old stock from the stores they took over (Great Mills, Do It All, Focus branded stuff was still in stores years later, then they changed their branding twice more, once through another agency then through ...

Re: Amazing family friendly days out 1.5 hrs from se26
I think it has. Sadly one of the main playground is shut at the moment, but it's a good place. The walk along the river is good too and there is a 4 quarters there, which is a bar with loads of old arcade machine, sega Playstations etc (not so much for the kids!).

Re: Feeling emotional…
One of our favourite things about Sydenham was what there was nearby. OK - your professional advice sought here - in future efforts to market Sydenham, which should it be? Dulwich borders South Forest Hill North Penge West Bellingham Lower Crystal Palace I presume you jest Tim. I always joked about ...

Re: Feeling emotional…
Thanks for the kind messages. I'm not going far and my son still goes to school nearby so we pass through. We may even have one final project in Sydenham. We are waiting for the house we are buying to go through probate so we are in a state of limbo at present. It's all been extremely stressful. To ...

Lullingstone Castle, only 30-40 minutes away by car is well worth a visit. They do classic car days too. There are amazing walks around there too, and the Lullingstone Roman Villa. It's a great place for a picnic, fly a kite or to play games in the surrounding countryside.

Feeling emotional…
I was in two minds about writing this. But I got an email a little while ago from AliB who I remember did something similar. After 10 years of living (and working) in Sydenham we have now left and I feel a little emotional. We have a lot of memories here. On our first night after moving into ...

Re: Sainsbury's news
It goes back to the whole local demographics thing, we just don’t seem to be on the coffee chain’s radar (yet!). Thank goodness! Great coffee can be had at a number of places in the high street and suroundings like Sugahill, On The Hoof etc. I dislike coffee chains (I've worked with Starbucks). I ...

Re: sticky:RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
I'm afraid i am extremely sceptical about the conservation area, the purpose of it and the people it serves best The problem in Sydenham is that most original features of shops have already been ripped out, roller shutters added, original signage boards covered up or removed. Planning hasn't been ...

Re: sticky:RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
Hi Jon, I can answer this to a point. We have worked in conservation areas and with English Heritage (as it was back then) and listed buildings on signage. It all varies from council to council and officer to officer. The issue in Sydenham is that little is enforced, communication of the ...

Re: sticky:RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
Nandos signage and shop front design was really good and really didn't need any amends. I hope they haven't made it too sanitised.

Re: The mural designs!
As initial designs, no1 and 3 give a fairly good indication as to how they would work, even on a distorted wall. Of course, they will be adapted onto the drawings later but this wasn't part of the brief to the artists and designers and not available as I understand. No1 could absorb the details in ...

Re: The mural designs!
Planning meetings. At least one artist intends the wall to be boarded to create a flat surface, but none of them address the way the images are misleading in the way they project the design onto the tapering wall. In fairness no 1 gives a fairly good idea for how it will work and at such a scale ...

Great idea, JRW
Re: sticky:Mural?
I dearly hope it goes ahead. Keep at it. Shame this wasn’t thought through when they put the CA in force. Conservation areas are fine for suburbs (up to a point) but if you apply them to a busy high street which needs to continually evolve, refresh and grow then they are a recipe for stagnation and ...
Re: sticky:Mural?
For this to happen it needs real support by local cllrs (not speaking against it going ahead isn't support!). I've worked on murals and designs with councils, sometimes in conservation areas. Much of what is designed doesn't happen. Lots of it depends on the council officers and political will. If ...
