Re: What is happening on Sydenham Road right now?
The speed of traffic on Sydenham road is really bad sometimes. The junction with Newlands park is often like a race track. Someone almost lost control and hit me and my son as we were waiting to cross recently. The lights at the junction with Mayow road really don't work properly leaving motorists ...

What is happening on Sydenham Road right now?
There is an ambulance, many police cars and it's closed off from Girton Road upwards!

Re: sticky:RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
I think Nandos will be great. It will be somewhere for young people to go particularly without having to go to Bromley or beyond to meet their friends.
It's fantastic that brands like this are investing in our area!

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?
I've contacted most businesses on the high street now and the most enthusiastic company so far is Nandos!
Does anyone have contacts for the community development coordinators at the banks? Or other nationals such as Superdrug, Boots etc - they seem to be the most difficult to track down.

Re: How Cobbs Corner is changing
The roundabout is definitely a joke. I am involved in trying to get more trees for Sydneham high street (see related thread) and next on my list is tackling that roundabout and a very sad looking 'flower' bed at the bottom of Trewsbury Road. If anyone wants to help me with a bid to the assembly for ...

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?
Regarding Knighton Park Road flower bed: I agree bedding plants would be totally unsuitable we need something low maintenance (just a bit of tidying a couple of times a year, so some ground cover plants to stop weeds) but eye catching - which has seasonal interest. grasses alchemilla mollis (Lady's ...

Anyone have a contact for people in charge of Nandos development?
I was going to ask them if they can sponsor some trees as part of the Sydenham Road Tree Scheme...

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?
Street Trees for Living have recommended Pyrus 'Chanticleer' - the same ornamental pear that is growing well in Oxford Street. It has white blossom in spring and leaves which turn yellow/red in autumn and remain on the tree until Christmas.

Lewisham council plant the trees, we just find the money!
We water them - preferably people who have businesses nearby!

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?
Street Trees for Living are experts (and i've heard this elsewhere) that apparently if you water trees regularly the roots grow down not out. There is no time to do a survey of Kirkdale now but we could do it for next year once this is out of the way... I am collecting the leaflets today. Any one ...

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?
Yes, I've considered this too. But to get some decent plants in there would need a couple of hundred pounds at least - crowd funding?
Anyone done this, might help with the trees too?

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?
Each tree costs £295 (which includes a protective cage).
People can contribute the full amount or part of it.
We also need people to volunteer to water them while they are young. This would be about once a week I think.
You can commit to do both or either.

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?
I asked why there were not more trees at the time and was told it was not possible. But Street Trees for Living are experts in this area. We have walked up and down the high street looking at possible sites and they have used a metre to see if any cabling would be compromised. We found about 20 ...

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - help needed!
That's great JRW!
I have PM'd you.
Anyone else interested?
There are so many benefits - trees help with:
* controlling pollution levels
* cutting traffic speed
* supporting wildlife
* and can have a big positive psychological impact!

More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?
Hello I am trying to get more trees for the high street. Myself and Street Trees for Living (the charitable organisaton which helps Lewisham Council organise and fund more street trees for the borough) have identified about 20 sites for one or two trees between Cobbs Corner roundabout and the Golden ...

New homogeneous shop fronts in Thornton Heath!
Anyone seen them? Or know who is behind them. This is an area that I've always hated driving through because it looked so messy and represented typical decline of high streets. These along with the colour work added to some of the buildings make it look so much better already. A shop front/signage ...
