Hmmm. I cant help thinking that Sydenham (or Lewisham) has shot itself in the foot. Again. The council is happy to have pound shops, pawnbrokers and empty shops but wont allow someone to create a restaurant that could be exactly what the area needs. Am I missing sometihng? Of course I may have been ...

Hi there, I was wondering about both these things too - The place opposite Ladbrookes isnt being developed upon at the moment although they are extending / renovating the flat above the shop on the corner. The guy in the shop told me that they "may try to do something with it later on" (Hurray - the ...

Just an idea - does anyone think there would be an appetite for the French Market to come back to the pub carpark? I seem to remember it made a visit a couple of years ago and was quite popular...

It might also be a way to get more people to give the Greyhound another go...

Interesting you should feel that way because we took a deep breath and walked through the door yesterday evening for the first time in 3 years... From where I was standing, things are looking up. We should all be mindful that change will take more than enthusiasm and a lick of paint but the place ...

Hi there and welcome ! Its a matter of opinion, but my wife feels much safer coming back to Sydenham Station than Penge East / West. That said, both have good numbers of people at most times of the day. As for the pub on the corner, its under new management and a much nicer place as a result. I ...

If it's anything like the corner of Newlands Park and the high street, people (like sheep) only tend to dump rubbish once someone has started the ball rolling. Last week we had a broken table - within a couple of days there was a matress and a fridge !

Where do they all come from?

As this thread is about Sydenham Regeneration, I was wondering if Chris Best (or perhaps one of her colleagues) could tell us what is being done to push for the substantial TfL grant of £1.75 million that I mentioned earlier in this conversation. I understand that Sydenham is 3rd in line for this ...

Good idea - perhaps if we compile the list of contacts in the forum, the complete list could be added as an additional page on the main website? For "Street Faults" (covering broken pavements, road signs, lights, rubbish obstruction the pavement, potholes etc etc) you can use this handy webform ...

yuk - there was a similar thing on the corner of the high street and Newlands Park which I reported to Lewisham. They were actually quite quick to sort it out. My advice - use the phrase "Obstructing the pavement". They're pretty hot on that. Whilst that should sort out the problem for now, it might ...

May I suggest that we spend the £5,000 tidying up what we've got before putting in new trees / benches etc. Maybe some grafitti removal, replacement / disposal of dead telephone boxes, repairing the lighting by the station (ready for winter), fixing street signs etc. Once that's done, I'd vote for ...

They've set sail for another port. What a shame.

(Perhaps the roundabout at Goose Green was more appealing because of the bars and restaurants in ED!!)

In answer to my own question, the shop will be converted to "Type A3". So do we think it's going to be the start of the 'Cappuccino effect' in Sydenham or another Kebab place? Answers on a postcard... This class is designed specifically for restaurants and cafés, i.e. places where the primary ...

Its annoying, isnt it. I have some on my back gate which I keep meaning to repaint (that'll be the 3rd time in 2years). I think that most of us will take care to remove the grafitti from our own property, and it would be nice if Lewisham did the same to the public areas. I'm sure they had a ...

New Shop on the highstreet?

Does anyone know what the plans are for the empty "Hempire" shop on the High Street? (just up from Newlands Park Rd) There is a bright yellow "Change of Use" notice on the front door and it mentions the the installation of a "Duct" for something or other. Sounds like yet another fast food place to ...

I'm glad it annoys someone else. I was starting to think it was just me. I don't like to complain, but just like you, when my wife could no longer push the buggy past their 'shop' without going into the road I though enough was enough. It brings the whole area down. I did once ask them nicely to ...

I cant argue with what you're saying and I'm certainly no expert. But if you look at Forest Hill, the highstreet was similar to Sydenham in the 90s and then most of the shops were forced to close and only then (after a period where the highstreet was almost dead) did the regeneration start to take ...

I couldnt agree more. As per my other post on this subject, we need something to shake up the High Street and whilst the Bell Green development isnt ideal, it could well end up doing Sydenham a huge favour in the medium term.
