Ok, Pat, I'll see if I can clarify some details for you.

Ray Hall's original plans for rebuilding the Crystal Palace were first presented in 1999 when he proposed that the building should be erected on Blackheath as part of the millennium celebrations. The scheme was greeted with a chorus of ...

I completely agree with all the comments leenewham made - every single one of them. As a mother of a teenager, I can't wait for the palace to be rebuilt. I adore the shops and markets in this area and get seriusly depressed when I see empty shop units. Bring back a building of importance like this ...

Yes, it's amazing isn't it, kennyb2? But I suppose cream will always rise to the top eventualy.
I was in the park yesterday and also had a look at the site. Two abandoned diggers sat besides a big hole, but I couldn't see too much more than that.
It was a horrible day weather-wise yesterday, but ...

1. steaming in looking for souvenirs to keep as, er, souvenirs or . .
2. grinding stuff into rubble, therefore doing away with a potential bunfight and avoiding souvenirs collecting dust on mantlepieces.

Not interested in taking away souvenirs to be honest. It would be a good idea to put this ...

This is the worst news. Blatant vandalism!!!! If I can get up there tonight too, I will. I'll bring my camera, but my feelings are probably the same as BigJim's.

I was of the opinion that the 1854 Crystal Palace was a building of historic significence?
My friend still has a bit of the Berlin Wall ...

multistoried Crystal Palace

can you imagine their reaction if the LDA decided to put a huge multistory entertainment complex on the top site. You know, a bit like the Cyrstal Palace!

Two words stick out in that short and veeeery sweet little paragraph - multistory and entertainment I think you'll find that the Crystal ...

I'm sorry, I know this thread started out with such passion (and the sort of thing that would drive me nuts too - I mean, the CHEEK of it!) but I've just sat here reading all the threads and it's really made my day.
Thank you everyone for making me laugh :)

The Crystal Palace

I have been following with interest The proposal to build a new Crystal Palace. Many like myself, feel that It would be a beautiful tribute to the heritage of the site while at the same time providing jobs, entertainment and ongoing funding for the park. This seems much more sensible than a one off ...
