Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
I agree too. Something like this could bring much needed regeneration to the high street. The council needs to do their bit to actively encourage something decent like this to open on this site. It's a priority for Sydenham high street! We need fast enthusiastic action and rapid resolution of any ...

Re: Windmill Victory
I don't understand the obsession with pubs. They have their place, but we don't need as many as we did in the past because the ways in which people socialise has changed. If and when the Nando's opens, I speculate it will be very busy. Unlike some of the pubs....

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
Agreed. That corner on Kent house is used for badly parked cars and loads of rubbish bags. Greenery in the area would improve the appearance immensely.

What about those of us who don't drink beer? This whole thread is about beer! Offensive and discriminatory to wine drinkers. Tsk.

On the plans there are two pages at the end that mention carluccios and pizza express. What is that? Is that just potential examples?

Re: Is there ever any good news for Sydenham.?
Someone I know once pointed out that for somewhere to regenerate rapidly, it needs to deteriorate first to clear out and create vacant units. This then means there is the possibility of lots of new places opening at once. By contrast, in somewhere that is just about managing, the original businesses ...

Thanks. Yes. Very interesting. Another snippet of interest is that there were several German and Swiss people living in the road. in the 1880s I recall.

Re: 7 Kent House Road
I live around there and looked up the history of the houses at Lewisham archives. Many are early 1860s and were lived in by families with one or two servants. My house was lived in by a retired female publican with her niece and a maid. All the occupations are listed along with names of residents in ...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
Yes, those wetherstones pubs probably have a place, but we can manage without one in the heart of Sydenham Village.
Re: Budgens
Prices way too high at budgets and unappealing shopping experience. The same large jar of coffee in there is over £7 and it can be bought for less tha £5 in Lidl! At those prices I would rather have m and s simply food. I get all my little luxuries in Lidl now. Lovely range of antipasti, good wine s ...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
I've emailed a few restaurant chains about vacant lots on the high street. I'm very disappointed that they are lying empty in such good locations. I don't really want any more pubs as I think we have enough already, many of which are not full most nights. What the area needs is restaurants as dining ...

Re: Neglected areas in Sydenham
In Nunhead high street there was some kind of co-ordinated effort to improve external appearances of shops with new signs and fronts done up using similar styles and design palettes. It's made a real difference to first impressions of the high street. I'd be prepared to donate some money to a crowd ...

More restaurants for Sydenham
On Saturday night I ordered a takeaway pizza from Trattoria Rafaelle. While I waited they turned away three groups of people because it was completely full. The previous weekend I went with some friends for brunch at 'On the Hoof' and we had to wait for a table - again, very busy. Gurkhas was also ...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
I would like it to be a restaurant rather than a pub when it reopens. I mostly take my eating out money outside of Sydenham. I do visit some of the local eateries occasionally but want more variety and options. I am sure there are many others like me. Pubs as a place purely for drinking are in my ...
