Re: Moving to Sydenham

Re. volunteering: the foodbank at Holy Trinity Church is always saying they are in desperate need of food - the demand they have had this year is through the roof. I don't know if they are equally in need of volunteers? Spontaneous Productions always seem to be in the market for volunteers handing ...

Re: Moving to Sydenham

For best ale I'd go to Ignition Brewery in the Sydenham Centre. Not a pub as such, but a local brewery well worth supporting. They've started doing occasional jazz nights there. Personally, in terms of pubs I'd go with the Greyhound, the Dolphin and, in Lower Sydenham, the Perry Hill. The Woodhouse ...

Re: St Philip Neri school: Archdiocese appeals planning enforcement order

Has a carbon assessment of the emissions resulting from the building being knocked down and rebuilt been carried out? Why not? How does demolition and rebuild of this building tie into Lewisham's net zero plans? While I have always thought this building was quite shockingly ugly - and clearly did ...

Re: Mayow Park Bowls Green booked up all summer

I've since seen that Spontaneous Productions are doing more performances at the Bowls Green than they have in previous years. But not every weekend from late May to October. I'm still curious to know what's happening there. Does anyone know of any other local(ish) outdoor spaces to put on an ...

Mayow Park Bowls Green booked up all summer

I put in an enquiry about hiring the Mayow park bowls green for an outdoor event in late May. I was surprised to get the reply that it was all booked up until October. I suppose COVID has got us all making the most of our outdoor spaces. But this is quite a leap: in the 5 years living in Sydenham I ...

Re: Lewisham planning 400 flats for Sydenham Road

By all means ask the council to exclude the Dolphin from the plans — although never in a million years would anyone approve its demolition anyway, given it is such a fine building. I think demolition of any building should be resisted on environmental grounds. I need to look at the Local Plan and t ...

Re: How will this lockdown affect us?

How will this lockdown affect us? Well, it will obviously affect businesses that are forced to close considerably: they will have another month (fingers crossed) with no income and will have to rely on government grants. Lots of wellbeing issues, especially for children and teenagers, who won't be ...

Re: How will this lockdown affect us?

Controlled Parking Zones and Pay and Display car parks will operate as usual. So in the middle of a pandemic they will force traffic wardens to work. The council is run by petty minded and I will do all i can to ensure they will never consider this a safe labour seat again Lots of that is automated ...

Le's gone but 'Sushi Coming'

Noticed that Le's, the Chinese cafe/takeaway at Lower Sydenham has closed. But has a sign up saying 'Sushi Coming'.
I'm a big fan of sushi from Hibagon but another sushi option won't be a bad thing.

Re: New Bistro in Perry Village’s Foodie Quarter

Shouldn't it be Perry Vale Village anyway? I mean I know that's not so snappy as estateagentspeak goes, but the fact is it's not an area called 'Perry', it's an area called 'Perry Vale'.

Re: Primary Schools Advice

Our son goes to St Barts. And we're not at all relgious. The amount of religion at St Barts seems fairly minimal. We got a bit of God and Jesus references from him during Reception but much less in Year 1 and Year 2. I've made it clear to him from the start that I think of stories about God and ...

Re: Tranzmission Festival (Rave)

Right now it wouldn't be legal. Boris Johnson's announcements this morning suggest certain things regarding music and entertainment will relax in August, including indoor live music. This suggests that by September, larger outdoor concerts may also permissible. But I would be amazed if they would ...

Re: moving to Sydenham

It doesn't surprise me that there's not much on the market, and so those who have to move, and have to live in a particular area, are currently having to pay above the odds, but it also means they are buying something that is probably overpriced and something that will down in value: https://www.bbc ...

Re: moving to Sydenham

As suggested above, I imagine it's simply that no many people for obvious reasons are putting properties on the market. By the same token though, I'd have thought this would mean things there's a lot of room for bargaining with properties that are on the market. I'd go and see things that are above ...

Thanks both. I thought there'd probably be something like that. It's just under a mile there from where I live so that's handy to know.
