Re: Barratt Homes / gasholders site: make your comments NOW!

The question still is, is it safe to house people here? presumably it wasn't safe a few years ago when it was all designated a commercial zone/massive car park. What has changed? Presumably they are monitoring the toxic gases released and liquids pumped out - is there any public record of this? Has ...

Re: Local Train Services

in my experience half the time you have to use the stairs at norwood junction, especially on the return journey from East croydon. I'm sure loads of stations are unmodernised but norwood junction has now been made a compulsory interchange for us and it is not fit for purpose. I guess it is better ...

Re: New Marks and Spencer at Bell Green

stuart - the 'park' is of an out of town design and so there never was any consideration given to pedestrians or cyclists. And the planners might argue that this was deliberate so as not to impact the high street. This would be fine if there was a similar range of shops on the street, but there isn ...

Re: New Marks and Spencer at Bell Green

Opening up literally anything on some or all of the disgraceful curries is a positive move. FHSoc do have a point that a shop like this on the local high streets would give all the stores a lift, but M&S would have done their homework - a newish unit, relatively easy to convert/fit-out with delivery ...

Re: Bell green transport meeting Saturday 30th September

The whole thing was so misconceived, it is amazing they got away with it. It is an out of town retail park right in the middle of one of the most densely populated areas in London, yet makes no concessions to the fact that many visitors will be pedestrians. And obviously makes no concessions to ...

Re: Planning Application - Gas Holder site

If you look what they have planned for the whole of the old gas site going forward, this is just the beginning. The whole site will be covered in 20+ story flats, with not even a pocket park to give some breathing space. The jewel in the crown will be a bakerloo station where the bridge over the ...

Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic

As I understand, camera enforcement would allow residents of Bishopsthorpe to have their cars registered and come and go as they like. The system would just potentially report through traffic without the permit. But for me this option is not in the spirit of a LTN. Sure it could cut the traffic down ...

Re: No East Croydon/Sydenham/London Bridge rail service as of September?

I've read that there are only 3 lines connecting east croydon and norwood junction - the fast up and down to/from london bridge and 1 spare line, like a hard shoulder perhaps. This means our local services have to take up slots on the fast line. It seems pretty daft to me, but it has been this way ...

I guess it won't be 'the wooden bridge' after November then.
It would be fitting if the new span was made in Germany though.

Re: Labour landslide

You need to read more widely. I was quoting the science. You are stating anecdotes. When a house suffers subsidence, because of a nearby tree then what is the carbon cost of the repairs? Did you know that your property insurance is invalid if a tallish tree is within 15 feet of your property? What ...

Trees are beneficial when they are young. The mature trees most people love have little or no beneficial effect. If That doesn't sound right at all. Mature trees provide a habitat for birds insects etc. They'll filter out particulates. Offer greater shade, so cooling the air, make walking more ...

Looks like they've been able to use existing BT ducts for most of it to avoid digging - neat, eh?
What they have dug up is anything but neat. They've made a right mess of the pavement in perry vale.

Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic

I notice today that Lewisham council have this week removed the signs that indicated permission for cyclists to enter/exit bishopsthorpe. On the face of it, it is no-entry for everyone now. "Healthy neighbourhoods is a programme that will change our streets to encourage people to walk and cycle ...

Re: Sainsbury’s Local safety screen removal

Actually, removing the screens possibly improves air flow to disperse fine air-born particles. Then again larger particles will land fairly quickly and are perhaps better held in a more enclosed space. What we can be sure of is no research has gone into this. Unsurprisingly we have the highest dally ...

Re: Level Crossing over Forest Hill station!?

Location: Of course there was a bridge around this point (FH station) before the rail, to cross the canal. Why they picked here to cross is anyone's guess. A main goal was to provide a connection from london rd across newly enclosed sydenham common to stanstead rd, I reckon. Why they didn't take a ...

Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic

Sliverdale hasn't had any recorded accidents last I checked. Look at the accident map of the area, and it is clear which roads are overloaded. And now they are more overloaded. As for encouraging cycling in this area, a better use of funds would be to replace the iron bridge, lovely as it is, to ...

Shop restaurants and restaurants owners don't want anyone thinking their premises are unsafe in any way as it puts off customers. Get those masks off and spend some money! And yet many of these places are indeed unsafe ...
