Re: What is the best way to get to UCL?
Depending on where you live in Sydenham you could get the Thameslink service from Penge East (Z4) or Sydenham Hill (Z3) to St Pancras then walk or get a bus from there. Some direct services, but at most times you need to change at Herne Hill, which is really easy, and much nicer than going from ...

Re: New to Sydenham
I am another person who's very happy to live in Sydenham. Not quite sure how to judge one's personal safety when out and about but I've never had any problems. Whilst people do post when they have been a victim of crime, for fairly obvious reasons, people don't post when they haven't been a victim ...

Hmm, all quite interesting. The London proposals report is at: http://rr-bce-static.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/BCE_LondonIPS_acc.pdf?9d7bd4Worth Worth noting that: Most of you will be in the new constituency of Dulwich and Sydenham - see link to map - taking in parts of both ...

Re: Jogging buddy/group based in Sydenham
You might also want to check out some local running clubs - they tend to cover a very wide spectrum of abilities, but each have their own niches and cater for some groups better than others.
I think the nearest are:
- Beckenham Running Club
- Dulwich Park Runners

Re: Community consultation - St Clements Heights, Wells Park
Thanks Annabel for posting this - I couldn't make it to the exhibition but this is of strong interest to me as I live very nearby - do I need to wait until the planning application is submitted to find out more or is there any other information out there I can access?

Re: Tree down on Sydenham Hill
IF the tree came down as a result of the acts or omissions of the owners (the Dulwich Estate in this case) then I would be interested to know if they have committed an offence - this could have had very serious consequences for anyone unfortunate enough to have been walking or driving past when the ...

Re: Is the LBL's drinking control zone lawful?
Well done Bensonby for challenging the Council on this, though some time ago I posted here to say that I favoured some form of restriction on street drinkers, and I haven’t seen anything since to make me change my mind. The 2001 Act (“primary legislation”) Bensonby referred to above enabled more deta ...

Re: Kirkdale stories?
Well, Halifax Street, just off Kirkdale is a lovely little road with some beautiful old cottages, which were almost bulldozed back in the '70s but saved after some effective campaigning. There were some old newspaper clippings posted on this site (search under "Halifax Street" and scroll down a bit ...

Re: Wunderbau - Old Cedars - Kirkdale
Joan Alcock mentions it briefly in "Sydenham and Forest Hill" - the middle bit is the original house, built in the 1770s (you can see this more clearly from the back), the left hand side is an 1870 extention and the right hand side is a more modern extention. I don't know how long it was known as ...

Re: BELTWOOD IN SYDENHAM HILL
Thanks for that - very interesting! I live nearby and am fascinated by the building - partly because it's so obscured by the trees, which makes it a bit more mysterious - so I am following progress with great interest. Would have been good if the brochure had more interior pictures though!

Oh and the Joan Alcock book about the history of Sydenham and Forest Hill says that four people were killed in the explosion. Not aware of any other information about this.

Re: Weather and travel
Did anyone get a train from Penge East/ Sydenham Hill this morning? I went to the latter at about 8:25 but saw no sign of trains so made my way (walk then bus) to Brixton to get a tube in. I think I'll have to retrace my steps tonight as the Southeastern service seems to be in chaos.

Re: Waitrose in Sydenham
I've shopped in several different Waitrose stores over the years and I'm a big fan. Caters to both low-budget and the more "poncy" shoppers alike, and their employee ownership structure has much to commend and should be copied more widely. Can't say that their store near East Croydon station has ...
