Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic
For all those complaining about the additional traffic on Sydenham Road and Mayow Road - the whole point is to encourage people to walk or cycle rather than drive. If you don't like being stuck in your car, think of the alternatives.
Re: Masks
Yeah, all those uneducated Remainers are now walking around without masks. The selfishness of them!Robin Orton wrote: ↑26 Jul 2020 11:57 I suspect willingness to wear a mask is related to age, gender, class and level of education (a bit like views on Brexit), rather than to ethnicity.

Local Pubs - Best Beer Gardens
The Telegraph published its best beer gardens in London for the bank holiday weekend. Its a premium article, but I can tell you that our local pubs did very well. Noting that seven of these are in South London: 1. The Albion, Islington 2. The People's Park Tavern, Hackney 3. The Eagle, Shepherd's ...

Re: Any news on Mamma Dough?
Yes, I was wondering about this as well. What concerns me is there’s a new Lewisham council note saying mama dough has an application for the store front they are currently fitting out and any complaints need to be lodged by early February.... Did someone initially complain and block their d ...

Yes, but it takes time to plan, consult and fund. Phase 1 is approved, and construction will start in due course Phase 2 is the proposed extension to Catford, Sydenham and Hayes.SydenhamOwl wrote: ↑7 Feb 2019 10:45 Is there anything new on this? Haven't they been saying this for years and years?

Re: Bakerloo Line Extension
Sorry, I don't see that this has anything to do with the extension beyond Lewisham? And even if it does, I have very major reservations about losing the Hayes line. It's quite long enough as it is - and getting longer - without diverting round any more of SE London than is absolutely necessary. You ...

Re: A Leaf out of East Dulwich Forum's book?
Hi everyone, So, finally the house move seems to be finalising and we are looking to complete and be part of the community from the 26th October. Very happy to be joining you all Sydenham!! I'm moving from East Dulwich, and I've been a member on the forum there for quite some time now and it's a ...

I thought it was already a star crossing. Both directions go at the same time.JRW wrote:It would be interesting to know whether a star crossing is possible. Pedestrians want to go diagonally, rather than multiple crossings. It has worked out in town; maybe we should host a trial?

Re: Trains post May 20
I confess I haven't looked very carefully at the timetables online as I'm not sure what the names of the routes that currently go through Sydenham are but does anyone know how drastically the trians are set to change from May 20? https://www.railplan2020.com/timetables I assume London Overground is ...

Just a section where SS can post what current planning applications they are involved in so we can all add our voice Sounds like a nice idea, but I don't think they would have the time, let alone the inclination. SydSoc is entirely voluntary, and you can hardly expect them to spend time publishing ...
Toys R Us
It looks like we will have another empty retail outlet following today’s news.
A shame, as I found it a useful store.
Hopefully, we are able to attract a new tenant without too many hassles from the Council or Sydenham Society.

Re: 20 mph speed limits
Speeding in Sydenham seems to be getting worse by the day. Why arent the police doing more about this? Surely, mobile speed cameras are an easy solution. Who can we escalate this to, before we see more carnage on the roads. God help the day a family or small children are seriously injured or killed ...

Re: Litter on the streets of Sydenham
Hi, thanks for the tip. I’ve used fixmystreet before to report large items that have been fly tipped but I’m not sure how it would work with general litter. My point is that is seems to be a larger issue all over Sydenham (or at least the high street and lower end). We/ the council need to be enc ...

The Sydenham Society did not make any comments to Lewisham about this application, although it was discussed. However our feeling was that it was over-development and we have no problem with the decision to refuse for the reasons given - see below: R E A S O N (S) F O R R E F U S A L 1. The ...
