Re: New Aldi approved in Bell Green
Thanks for the answer JGD, interesting stuff - but judging by your reply on the other thread all of this was refused permission and has now been appealed against to be decided by an inquiry next year, so none of it is concrete yet, to coin a phrase? I love the view of the gasholders, so 'unloved' is ...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
I see common sense has prevailed & they're putting an Aldi in the old Toys R Us instead - wasn't that part of the proposal to demolish the gasholders? What is proposed to be built on the site now, if anything?

So SGN next have to complete a historic building investigation & risk assessments which have to be submitted and approved, any idea on how long that might take? Couple of months maybe?

Re: How Cobbs Corner is changing
Anyone else think the new Cobb’s Corner (Used to be the Blue Mountain coffee shop) signage is just God awful?. Slightly disappointed in the new lettering, they've gone for cheap & cheerful whereas when the new awning went up I thought they were going for a more classy, gentrified look. Good luck to ...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
I have a painting of the Livesey Hall in which the gasometers are partially obscured by trees. An artistic comment? But there we are - we are all different. The real question is - why should your view prevail and who is going to pay for it? Stuart My recent painting of the gasholders is currently ...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
Livesey Hall , its perimeter wall and War Memorial present themselves perfectly well without the presence of the gasometers. You have a very good visual imagination then, as you've never seen Livesey Hall without them. I'm impressed by the way you can mentally picture the scene without these ...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
Have not seen any dual carriageways - existing or proposed. 2 or more lanes of traffic going in the same direction in Bell Green, Perry Hill and bottom of Sydenham Rd? In front of the Bell pub there are seven lanes of traffic. Whether it technically counts a dual carriageway I'm not certain, there ...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
It's the gasholders that give the historical and visual context and setting to Livesey Hall. Without them it's significance is reduced and it becomes isolated, a relic amidst retail sheds, car parks and dual carriageways.

Re: Begging outside Sainsbury's local
I believe it is actually an offence to give money to beggars. I don't believe it is an offence, though certainly police advice, and the advice of many charities, is not to give money directly to people begging. See this news story from last year, if it was an offence then the sign would surely not ...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
Measures to cut and mitigate emmissions should be a top priority. That all points to the gyratory which is a blot in so many other ways to the area. People have been pressing for this for years but no comprehensive plan appears to have been put together to give Sydenham a cleaner and more pleasant ...

Oh so it would be like Crystal Palace Museum, photos of something that's no longer there. Except in that case it burned down, in this case we demolished it.RJM wrote:Larky wrote:The museum is a great idea and should be in The Livesey.

It's going to change massively, when the Nando's opens the corner will become quite busy I imagine. The old snooker hall along the side could well be reopened as bars or restaurants in the future.

Yes and I'm sorry to say it will happen more when Nando's opens. There was an old lady this morning sitting on the pavement outside the entrance that isn't even open yet.
