Travellers in Girton Road car park

It appears travellers have returned to the Girton Road car park.

Councillors / Council - can their removal be dealt with PROMPTLY this time to avoid the mess, attempted burglaries and general nuisance caused last time.

Re: sticky: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

Unless you have a very good reason not to reveal the MP you say is behind the stalling, I suggest you tell everyone that looks at this forum.

Enough is enough and Sydenham deserves better from a Council that is supposed to be championing the area.

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

Sydenham monthly market = Fail
High Street banners = Fail
Sydenham as a vibrant high street = Fail

Who is linked to them all I wonder?

Re: Liveable Neighbourhood for SE26 and SE23

Well done for starting this thread. Some thoughts:

1. Trees for Sydenham High Street (high priority)
2. Bell Green gas holders park
3. Further play equipment - Mayow Park
4. Station Approach (Sydenham) - soft landscaping

Good luck!

Pat - thank you for the summary.

Can you or anyone else shed some light on the large unit adjacent to the Greyhound that was destined to become KFH?

Re: Sydenham Market is back on 2nd Saturday of the month

Did a friends group ever materialise for the High Street?

What happened to the monthly market - did our councillors lack the necessary skills and vision to make it a success therefore abandoned the idea?

Re: High Street banners

So we are still waiting for someone at the Council to take responsibility for taking down the street banners....or actually fix them.

Only been over 5 months now why rush!

Re: Namaste site looking hideous!

Unfortunately I agree. It's a shame as this area has so much going for it in terms of community and open green space but is routinely let down by a Council that appears painfully slow at getting things done and reluctant to listening to good advice by people who know what ingredients are required to ...

So banners are still looking a mess.

Can we get some action please rather than words.

Re: High Street banners

Shame when good advice seems to fall on deaf ears despite numerous attempts.

If the cost is high, why don't we do the signs in phases along the high street? Better to have a few that work well and look good than a lot that look tatty.

Re: High Street banners

Chris - apologies for directing my frustration at the Council, clearly this is a multi-layered problem. So if Skanska had two clear opportunities to fix the signs securely then why did the work not get carried out? I find it hard to believe that their workload has not allowed them a single ...

Re: High Street banners

So it's all skanska's fault then and nothing to do with the fact that the Council have contracted out work they have no apparent control over?

Re: High Street banners

Question 1. Why has it taken 4 months for the Council to realise that skanska didn't fix the banners as originally requested last October? Question 2. Having commissioned a set of banners that blew away previously why did the Council not demand second time round that skanska fix the banners more ...

So the banners are still loose despite being told that they were going to be fastened when the xmas lights went up.

2017 - 3rd set of banners commissioned and blown loose by wind......and repeat.

Re: Sydenham Market is back on 2nd Saturday of the month

Friends of the High Street is a great idea and I wouldn't necessarily restrict members to just traders. If this was a more open platform I would imagine and hope it would attract a wider audience. I wouldn't worry about the other groups in Sydenham as this has a sole purpose or mission - to improve ...

Re: Sydenham Market is back on 2nd Saturday of the month

I agree and it's strange as both are in the same borough (so same Council) and very close to one another. However, beyond the high street I feel there is little to choose between. Both areas are leafy with good transport links, nice housing stock and a strong sense of community spirit. For me, the ...

Re: Sydenham Market is back on 2nd Saturday of the month

Cllr Best, Thank you for your response but I'm sad to say it's a pretty good deflection of the issues at hand. The Council Market Team may well have experience of running markets but it is quite clear it is not generating the results one would normally expect. A part indoor / outdoor market centred ...

Re: Sydenham Market is back on 2nd Saturday of the month

Unfortunately the market is located on a high street that at the moment is not that nice a place to dwell or linger. There is too much through traffic, frequent and sporadic flytipping and a general shabbiness, which is surprising given much of it is designated a conservation area. To attract people ...

Re: Sydenham Market is back on 2nd Saturday of the month

Haven't witnessed the birth and slow death of the monthly market venture on Sydenham high street, I think the last paragraph says all there is to say about the Council's approach and SEE3. Use it or lose it - did I read that right? Unfortunately one has to spell it out: you have to offer people ...
