Re: Crystal Palace Park closure
I heard it in Bell Green yesterday. I took an evening stroll up Sydenham high street, all the way up to Crystal Palace triangle and back and felt pretty bad for the people in the hospice there. Oddly you couldn't hear it around the triangle so maybe the speakers were just pointed to Sydenham.

Re: Loft conversion recommendations
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm get in touch with those next week for quotes and advice! Ive just spotted that Talylors Lofts have plans on the website which is handy for thinking about space options for bathroom positioning.

Loft conversion recommendations
Can recommend some good loft conversion companies?
I'm hoping to do an L-shaped loft conversion and wanted to also get an idea of roughly how much others are costing at the moment? And with the average Lower Sydenham-sized Victorian terrace, how much space has it added to your home? In my mind I'm ...

Re: Moving to Sydenham
Ooh and it's great living near Lower Sydenham with direct trains to the theatres (Charing Cross and Waterloo East) in just 15 minutes. Makes Sydenham feel a bit more fancy and central than it actually is
I love Crystal Palace too but trains are so much more convenient in Sydenham.

Re: Moving to Sydenham
I also live a few streets from there and have always felt very safe even having a late night stroll on ocassion. Sydenham's a lovely place to live and it's so nice being near Mayow Park with it's amazing cafe and tennis courts etc.

Anyone know what's happening on Sydenham road?
The police have closed access to Sydenham road in lower Sydenham. I'm currently stuck in a huge queue trying to get out the other end by Perry Vale. Does anyone know what happened?

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
Has anyone else living on Larkbere Road noticed tons of litter floating about? I live at the top end near Champion Crescent but every time I leave home, I notice stray crisp packets, chocolate wrappers right outside the door, chewing gum stuck to my wheely bin etc.

Re: Worst local transport journeys?
The lighting isn't great from Lower Sydenham but I feel safe walking back. There's always a train full of people walkig down the street with you, so there's safety in numbers at least!

Re: Worst local transport journeys?
Ah ok, in that case I'll get on and register my card! I also thought it was meant to be capped but just to a day travel card rate. But from adding up what's coming off my bank statement, it's definitely more than the monthly ticket from Lower Sydenham to London Bridge return... although possibly ...

Re: Worst local transport journeys?
Yes it is more expensive. I've been swiping in with my debit card so far but I think they said the difference for a month pass return to London Bridge is about £95 for Sydenham or £130 for Lower Sydenham. (Or about £150 to just swipe as you please with a bank card).

Re: Worst local transport journeys?
Southern trains from Sydenham to London Bridge have given me meltdowns on a couple of occasions when I'm late for work or knackered on the way home and having to deal with last minute cancellations, endless delays and just going straight past Sydenham on the way home, meaning I've needed to get a ...

PS I also posted for advice on this forum before buying here several years ago and moved here partly because of that friendly advice and thumbs up from Sydenhamites. I think it was a good choice!

Re: Moving to Sydenham
Another thumbs up for Larkbere road here! I moved here five years ago and am so happy to be on this side of Sydenham Road (close to Mayow Park!). It's directly between Lower Sydenham and Sydenham so you're never stuck when lines are down.

Advice needed about groups and nice things to do in Sydenham
Hi all,
I'm back in Sydenham after a year and a half away and could do with some advice on a few things:
1) Does the Sydenham Centre have a website? I've been trying to find out info about the classes held there but haven't found any details online. I went in person yesterday and rang the ...

Loft conversion planning permission for flats
Does anyone have any experience of building a loft conversion for a first floor flat? From what I gather, Lewisham council is much stricter than other councils on what you are allowed.
So if you live in a flat you have to have planning permission to do any loft conversion (but not for a house ...

Re: Toys R Us
That's true. Maybe in that case a nice independent set up by some Sydenhamites. Or I'd settle for an Odeon
Re: Toys R Us
The ToysRUs site would be an excellent location for a new cinema. How I wish someone would sweep in with some funds to set up a lovely Picturehouse. I have no doubts it would be very popular and easy for people to get to and park from neighbouring boroughs.

Re: Idea - local planning mailing list?
It would be good if Lewisham's restrictive rules on loft conversions could be relaxed! The rules in Lewisham are much stricter than other boroughs, so you can't have Juliet balcony doors or anything other than windows that look like the windows below and it can't come out the full length of the roof ...
