I live on one of the streets supposedly leafleted and I've seen nothing about this meeting.
I should also say that despite living close by I wouldn't even know there was a club there as all the comings and goings seem to be when I'm generally tucked up in bed, and I am clearly out of earshot of any ...

Re: Business/industrial unit on Newlands Park - what is it?
ah-ha. Combination of Eagle's mention of 'something to do with the Met' and the unmarked refrigeration vans gave me an idea - a quick google later and I find police forensics jobs based in Newlands Park.
Looks like it's CSI Sydenham!
Obviously with my stunning detective work they should give me a ...

Re: Business/industrial unit on Newlands Park - what is it?
I am afraid I wasn't around in the 50s and 60s to comment on whether we're talking about the same place Eagle :) but as it's the only building of its type in the vicinity I assume it must be.
It's really quite big but there's no signage on the building or any of the numerous vans parked there which ...

Business/industrial unit on Newlands Park - what is it?
For no other reason other than to satisfy my curiosity: does anyone know what the business(es) do that operate out of the 60s/70s block on Newlands Park (next to Studland Rd).
I'm sure it's nothing particularly interesting but I've been past it many times and never seen the name of business or ...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
Tim's questions about Purelake's intentions also omit the rather striking fact that Purelake have, already, rebuilt most of the Greyhound.
Goodness knows why they thought they could get away with knocking it down and rebuilding it without planning permission, but it would appear their intention ...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
On the issue of the size of the pub, bear in mind that that the rebuilding has replaced the previous small basement which wasn't tall enough to stand up in with one which can accomodate kitchens and toilets. And the new planning consent has forbidden the upper floor of the pub from being converted ...

Re: Gone - La Bonne? (Bakery)
Argh what were they thinking? I LOVE the bakery (I think their almond croissants are to die for) but they are shooting themselves in the foot not having a decent brand or marketing. We're not in France - fresh french bread and patisserie are luxury non-essentials here - it's not like they're ...

I have recently discussed a kitchen extension project with this local practice:

It was only an informal chat as we're not ready yet to start our project but I'd definitely consider them when we do go ahead, I got a 'good feeling' from them (I know a good feeling ...

Great news!
Hope they get some high quality signage to match their high quality product - their current appearance doesn't do the place justice.

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
Has this really just been waiting on a planning decision for six months? That seems crazy in the circumstances! Or is there more to it than that?
Having read the document linked to above, it does in fact sound like there has been a lot of engagement and negotiation between the planners and the ...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
A few months until what? I'm not sure what is going on at the moment and what is delaying progress. Is it still planning issues or is it just about the developer getting on and finishing the job?

Re: Saving Pubs / Housing People
It is acknowledged we as a country cannot subsidise anymore social housing .
Is it? Many would argue that it's rather short sighted not to. More and more people on benefits and low incomes are renting privately and are having to claim housing benefit to cover the rent - so the tax payer is just ...

Weeble, where did you get the 25,000 number from? I can't find any reference to it online.
Thanks

Re: The Dreary Christmas Lights of Sydenham Town
We won the Portas funding. Where exactly is the money going?? Shouldn't it be going on precisely this sort of thing to encourage people to come to Sydenham and spend money here??
Unless we're talking about the equivalent of the Blackpool illuminations I don't think a few lights of any description ...

Re: Saving Pubs / Housing People
I disagree with pretty much all of your post Tim. There are 72,457 empty properties in London (see links below), over 700,000 across the UK (not including properties above shops). The reason developments like this get bigger is (in my opinion) due to profit, not pressure of housing. Pressure of ...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
It's worth bearing in mind that when Antic pulled out the basement was practically unusable but the rebuild includes a sizeable basement where kitchen and toilets would be situated.

Re: The Greyhound
As for the question of whether people will want to occupy the homes - they are all affordable housing available for social rent, so they will be going to people on the housing waiting list. There's huge housing need so they will be snapped up in no time. I expect many of the new occupants will be ...

Perhaps the landlord owns or rents residential flats above the shop and is concerned about noise/odour/disruption from bar/restaurant use? Just speculating.

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
On the car parking issue - planning guidance actually restricts the number of parking spaces you can provide for residential development (although I think it might have changed more recently?) - the idea is to discourage car trips and encourage more journeys by bike, public transport etc. Hence ...
