I have to say I find these objections very questionable. In particular 3) 'global warming'. It seems extremely tenuous. Clearly no one will be arriving by public transport as they will have their own transport. So what diversion from public to private transport is there? Supposition or do you have ...

I agree Clown. The point I was trying to make was that a strength of Sydenham was the diversity of housing, people, culture and income. Why the diversity is not reflected in the range of pubs I do not understand. Why can Honor Oak can support a groovy bar and Sydenham can't? There must be ...

I've never been burgled, the police have never said to me "that'll be the lads from the xxx estate". The people I talk to in the local community do not have this view. I'm not being politically correct, I'm being anti-discriminatory. Lucky for you (or I may say very lucky). I have been burgled many ...

Tim, When the police come round to inspect your latest burglary - they often say "that'll be the lads from XXXX estate". We can discuss whether the police are best placed to form this view but in the absence of any better information, it is a view that propogates through the community. Odd that you ...

Thanks. Rang them and I am in area but "they are still delivering". Given that they lost our postal ballot and only correspondence to get through from Lewisham is the Council Tax bill I am also not over confident. I am not overly enthusiastic about giving them more control over our street. Do I ...

How does one get one as a resident of Sydenham?

Over the past few days, residents of "central" Sydenham will have received a consultation document from LBL outlining details of a CPZ I haven't. What is 'central Sydenham'? Surely the council would not want to be accused of gerrymandering the response? If you CPZ one area, it puts pressure on the ...

I've not had a problem with this clinic. Maybe the vet just loves my cat?

Did you make your unhappiness known? We all have bad days and a complaint should be treated as a gift by businesses that want to improve their service.

Second in my Plonkers guide to Somerfield: Riverview Merlot - £2-29. "A medium bodied red wine bursting with juicy red fruit flavours" Yes it is red as the stains on the carpet will remind you. It is Hungarian in the tradition of 'Bulls Blood' (is it still marketed?). I think the British taste has ...

The UKIP bloke's name is Jens Winton. Appearing on a message board to bombard people with eurosceptic propaganda and make 'watch your step' type threats when they dare disagree...it's all terribly unBritish, isn't it? Quite mild actually. Michael Howard goes a step further with people who disagree ...

Somerfield bargain?

Noticed this morning that Somerfield are again selling 4 bottles of Ritmo for a tenner - £2.50 each. Not a great wine - but not rubbish either. If you need something cheap to go with a pizza and don't want to throw up - try it! I'm just a customer and I've only tried the red. Anybody had a go at the ...

The Dulwich Wood House, which is listed in Sydenham Town's Directory, I always consider Sydenham's premier pub. It has:

* Youngs Beer
* No theming
* Parking
* Lots of outside sitting - great for kids
* BBQ in summer
* Pleasant environment

And the walk home is always downhill. It gets my vote.

Re: East London Line Extension

I do not understand. 12 trains/hour (every 5 mins) is well within the capacity of the line betwen Sydenham and New Cross. I can understand there may be congestion beyond Norwood junction but they can swing any excess traffic and terminate trains at the almost empty Crystal Palace station without ...

I know it is not Cobs Corner - but have you tried to turn right out of Silverdale? The pavement on the opposite side sticks out and with the keep left sign it now makes it a hazardous turn. Especially as you are looking left and right and have to shoot out at speed when there is a chance. I don't ...

Bell Green Development

I heard that the government has approved Sainsbury's proposal to build two new large retail units on their savacentre site.

Do we know what is happening now - are there detailed planning applications and who is likely to move in?
