Re: New Doors

Hi,

Not sure if you're still looking, but I recently (September) used 1st Scenic in Orpington for new patio doors and several windows: http://www.1stscenic.co.uk/ I used them following a recommendation from friends in Beckenham and can thoroughly recommend them myself following the work they did ...

Lettings agents in Sydenham

Hello everyone,

I'm about to rent out my flat in Sydenham, which I've been living in since 2005. Does anyone have any recommendations for which estate agent to use? I don't really know where to start.

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Liz

Re: Weather and travel

In answer to my own question, I got a Victoria train from London Bridge at around 4. Most things running, a bit delayed, a few cancellations. Generally pretty fine. Think the ELL may be worse.

Friends in Beckenham have abandoned Arcade Fire tonight. Good luck getting home from that!

Re: Weather and travel

Following a marathon 3 hour trek home last night and having struggled in to work this morning in central London (where there is NO SNOW!!), and in an attempt to be well prepared for the journey home, can anyone tell me:

Is it snowing in Sydenham? (according to the BBC forecast it should be snowing ...

Now just because the 'front looks good' you think that the people who use it, will change.

I don't think anyone's saying that just because it looks different the clientele will change. It might mean, however, that because it looks like a more inviting place more people will use it. I fail to see ...

Alhambra on Kirkdale

I just wanted to say that I dropped in on the Spring Soiree at Alhambra on Kirkdale this evening and was very impressed indeed. It seems to me to be exactly the kind of place that people on this forum have been crying out for for ages.

The shop sells some very nice stuff. There isn't anywhere else ...

Yes, I have also noticed the clearing work being done on that property on Sydenham Road. It'll be great to have that place tidied up and occupied.

A shame nothing seems to be being done about that awful eyesore with the bricked-up windows a bit further down, opposite the library. It's a shame ...

vegan food

This might be a bit of a tall order, but can anyone recommend anywhere locally (Syd, CP, FH, Brixton?) that would be good for vegans? Or at least a decent vegetarian place? I know the Trattoria makes a good cheese free pizza and pasta but I'm looking for some alternatives.

Thanks,
Liz

Waste disposal

I've recently had some building work done (new kitchen, floors etc) and now need to get rid of all the associated rubbish - old units, some rubble, tiles, old laminate flooring etc. Skip hire is too much of a hassle. Can anyone recommend a reliable and not-too-expensive local waste disposal company ...

Absolutely yes! There's a huge market in Sydenham crying out for decent places to eat. You'd make a killing.

Apologies to Bensonby et al. for being shallow, but I think it's naive to say that the exterior of a restaurant doesn't have any bearing at all on it's quality as a dining establishment, or if not 'quality' then at least it should be an accurate representation of the type of establishment it is ...

I noticed last week while walking past that the Mexican had changed its name to El Ruedo. How odd that they replaced the hideous exterior signage from the last owner with something equally as hideous. It actually took me a minute to work out what was different, it looked so similar. Then I realised ...

Thanks for the advice everyone - very useful indeed.

Having done a bit of research, the best plug-in devices are the ones that are both ultrasonic AND electromagnetic. Ultrasonic by itself is next to useless as the ultrasound doesn't travel through furniture, cupboard doors, floors, walls etc. but ...

what's the best way to get rid of mice?

Hello all,
I have recently started seeing and hearing mice in my ground floor flat. Has anyone ever used those plug-in sonic mouse repeller devices, and do they work?
The little critters are keeping me up at night.
Thanks!

To anyone in Sydenham at the moment...

Hello all,
Can anyone currently in Sydenham tell me what the weather conditions are at the moment? I'm at work in central London but due to go to the cinema afterwards (a preview of The Road - a fittingly cheery apocalyptic story) and am wondering if I'm being really stupid even considering it ...

Sydenham Garden is lovely! I don't think you can just turn up but they do have Spring and Autumn open days and a summer barbecue for Friends - you can join as a Friend of Sydenham Garden for £12 a year. The open days are really good and they have stalls selling plants and jam / chutney, bric-a-bac ...

I am a supporter of public art in general. While it is true to say that there are many other aspects of Sydenham which are in dire need of investment (I agree that the bricked up hostel is a shocking eyesore and the Council should be ashamed of itself), if this argument was always heeded then there ...
