Re: New Marks and Spencer at Bell Green
Ther is no question that work needs to be carried out to improve the traffic flow and parking situation at Bell Green but that was not the point of this thread. I note someone also advocates building housing on the site. Good look with that. There is a reason the former gas works was not developed ...

Re: New Marks and Spencer at Bell Green
LB Lewisham has granted permission for the M&S proposal at Bell Green. The decision was published on 16 September 2024 and the Decision Letter, Delegated Officers Report and a Revised Plan has appeared on the documents list at this location. https://planning.lewisham.gov.uk/online-applications ...

Re: Winter Fuel payment
MPs are claiming "second home" heating allowances with many of them having claimed thousands of pounds, including Rachel Reeves. Total hypocrisy! I'm in the same camp. Had they also taken away the heating allowance for second homes of MP's I would have found it a bit more acceptable. 👍 I’m grateful ...

Re: Winter Fuel payment
I'm in a tangle over this. Yes I would rather they had moved the burden upwards. But that is going to be a long hard haul. A windfall tax on energy companies would have fixed this. Even Thatcher did one The 1980s In 1981 Thatcher’s then chancellor, Geoffrey Howe, accused high street banks of e ...

Winter Fuel payment
Hey,
Ellie Reeves voted for the cut. It seems constituents are secondary to the party ideology and people will die or spend winter in fear of being warm.
It didn’t take long for the honeymoon to end!

Re: Broken window theory
Fantastic work, thank you for helping to keep Sydenham tidy I cannot understand people who just throw their rubbish on the ground even when there are bins close by Seems all my images broke, so I've re-added some... It's complicated. Sometimes it's the birds emptying the bins. Or foxes. Sometimes ...
Re: Riots
No, so didn't have time to join the Walthamstow anti-fash demo. Hopefully tonight sees the beginning of the end to the riots. But not the underlying issues. The good news is Sydenham wasn't a focus in the xenophobic troubles. Not getting on with everybody is no excuse for seeking to eliminate them ...

Re: Did you vote?
Yes I was surprised the Greens have emerged from the others as the clear main contender in Lewisham West. Still a long way behind but a reminder to Ellie that the Labour Party's climate policies need to get stronger if she doesn't want the gap narrowed.. Also a reminder to our councillors that they ...

Did you vote?
Hey all,
I voted green and we came in 2nd! The best result ever!! I knew we couldn’t win but a 12% rise and a reduced labour vote may make the bloated lazy incumbents pay attention. In fact green came 2nd in all Lewisham wards!!
This gives me hope.

Everyone now has the “3 week flu”. Mention Covid and some people are very touchy.

Re: New Marks and Spencer at Bell Green
Or does FHSoc hold a view that the area of Perry Vale, Bellingham and Lower Sydenham are not deserving of a new M&S outlet? I believe so. To object to creating jobs, with the cachet of an M&S in an area in need of regeneration is a bit fishy. FHSoc might be full of snobs. It feels like another ...

Re: Constituency changes after the General Election
Lewisham West should stay safe Labour. So should West Dulwich & Norwood. More interesting is which way the previous Beckenham constituency goes. It's picking up Penge/Cator Park Labour wards and the troubled Conservative MP is not standing. With the predicted swing it could switch. Every vote there ...

Re: Thames water and the vomiting bug (cholera) in Sydenham
It's good to hear Thames Water is testing and I would hope (with their current reputation) that they shout from the rooftops if no evidence of dirty water is found. Trust in them is at rock bottom and I hope they realise this and reassure communities appropriately. I don't want rumours of dirty ...

Thames water and the vomiting bug (cholera) in Sydenham
Oh dear I’m boiling my water for a while https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/may/25/thames-water-vomiting-bug-cryptosporidium Thames Water has sent samples of water for lab testing after dozens of people reported becoming unwell with stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea in south-e ...

Re: Licence application for gambling……
And the next step from this firm is to apply for a loosening of their licence to 24 hrs in a year's time. Couple this with allowing debit card usage in casinos plus allowing more higher stakes machines and this really is quite grim news for gambling addicts and the rest of us combined. Nothing to ...

Re: Did you vote?
I voted green x3. Not expecting anything from it. But really struggling to vote Labour, based on interactions with the council over a long period (though I have had recent productive conversations with Louise Krupski, who is now deputy mayor, about the litter issues). I really think it's time some ...
