Adult Learning Lewisham: online courses whilst their centres are temporarily closed
Adult Learning Lewisham posted this on a neighbouring forum: "You can continue to study with ALL from the comfort of your own home. Check out our courses and enrol online today: https://lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/education/adult/find-a-course " I'm not sure how some of the subjects will work via ...

Re: Crash on Sydenham Road
Was the car there today? There was a car on fire there last night (flames coming from the engine, one fire engine in attendance and people allowed to walk past - presumably no danger of the car exploding!). That was about 8.30pm

Re: Sydenham Society
Looking at SydSoc and FOHSoc, they both feel entitled to make detailed representations to local authorities about planning issues outside their own geographic domains. There are significant examples where this has been done without consultation of residents who will be most affected by any outcome ...

Thanks for the recommendation Pat. By coincidence I received an e-mail today asking if anyone could recommend a local laptop repairer, so I gave them your commendation and Tech House's details.

Re: Cohousing in Sydenham - Featherstone Lodge
There's a new planning application for Featherstone Lodge: http://planning.lewisham.gov.uk/online- ... CAPR_73409
I don't yet know how different it is to the first one.

Funnily enough I've been wondering about this myself recently.JaneD wrote:Does anyone know how this project is going?
According to Lewisham's planning webpages the application has been withdrawn. There isn't a record of a new application having been submitted.

Re: Shopping development
Do you mean the large retail units at Bell Green, next to Sainsbury's? The construction work was delayed for quite a while so I don't know when it's due to finish or which stores are going to be there. Originally B&Q and Next Home were among the shops due to open but that was from plans a few years ...

Re: Tesco Coming to Sydenham Road
Many of the products Tesco sell are a severe health risk and have been linked to obesity, heart disease and cancer. Do you mean products like cheese, chocolate, alcohol, cigarettes? Products that are widely available in supermarkets throughout the country? On Lewisham's planning website there are ...

Screaming for help - how not to be mistaken for a fox
This might sound amusing but there was a serious incident at the weekend that got me thinking about it. We're now so used to hearing screaming foxes that it's possible to mis-identify a person screaming in distress as being a fox. So if you ever find yourself being mugged or attacked, my advice is ...

I wasn't sure if we're allowed to mention named companies on the forum (rather than in private messages) but I see there's already a thread on the company I was going to recommend - LMS Gas Services: http://sydenham.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?style=1&f=8&t=1993 We've been using them for well over 10 ...

Re: NEW HOUSING IN SYDENHAM
Re the roundish block of flats at Bell Green (does it have a name?) I've seen it advertised as a 'buy to rent' scheme. This site http://premierconstructionnews.com/2012/03/19/housing-for-bell-green/ gives a description: "Comprising a mixture of one and two-bedroom flats, the 156 units are divided ...

Re: NEW HOUSING IN SYDENHAM
I don't understand why the new round block of flats at Bell Green is so unpopular on this forum. I think it looks OK - not spectacular, but nothing so bad to be dislikeable. Mind you I've only really seen it from one side, going around the side to/from Sainsburys, so perhaps it looks worse when you ...

Maples closed years ago. House of Linens in Sydenham (near Boots) sells some haberdashery. In Lewisham there's Rolls & Rems (dressmaking & homefurnishing fabrics and haberdashery) and Sakhi Fabrics (not sure of spelling) which has lots of dressmaking fabrics.

The dragon in that picture looks the same as the one that can be seen on Google streetview ( http://g.co/maps/y6anq ) which even in that picture looks a different colour to the old edging tiles. However in Google the second dragon looks different (different body, larger wings) so perhaps they weren ...

Re: Sorry peeps a little rant about committees.
I think people can get too hung up on the word 'committee', especially ones relating to local societies etc. In my experience they're just a group of people sitting around someone's dining room table, talking about stuff while consuming quantities of wine, crisps and biscuits. They're not imposing ...

There's a post on the SE23.com forum that this building is appearing on hotel listing sites as the 'Hive Hotel'. Does anyone know anything about this? Has it actually turned into a hotel or is it just a name change which has triggered travel websites listing it as a hotel?

Re: SAYING YES TO THE MOSAIC ON THE NABORHOOD CENTRE?
The winning Greyhound artwork design was selected (or not, as it turned out) by a selection panel. So although the designs were made public and displayed at the Kirkdale Bookshop with the opportunity to write comments in a book, the public's opinion didn't count towards the selection. As it turned ...
