Re: SUMMER CLUBS

We haven't tried it yet but Nimble Arts in Dulwich looks brilliant. I had a look round over Easter and it looks like great fun. Also nice to have an alternative to the sports based summer offerings.

Ages 4 and up.

Re: Bob Wines

Was in the Anerley shop today and it is fab! Apart from wine, they had a great selection of small distillery gins and other fun stuff. They expect to open in Sydenham in 6-8 weeks.

Bees!

We've got a bee infestation. They are in our flat, getting through closed windows, we've all been stung.

What does one do? I take it bees are protected. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Wooster and Stock - bad experience

I wanted to let everyone know about the appalling experience I had with Wooster and Stock this week. Mr Wooster himself came over to value our house and was not only aggressive but personally rude to me in a way that left me quite shocked. I've never been insulted in that way in my own house. I did ...

Re: Organic Fruit and Veg

The Saturday market at the Horniman museum in Forest Hill is fantastic. There's at least one organic veg stall but also a non-organic stall with really reasonable prices. Good cake and food, too and picnic benches to sit at. If you have kids, there are goats, sheep and the like to meet and a chime ...

Re: Where's a good place to go for coffee in Syd?

I know Lee has been singing its praises for months but I only just visited Montage in Forest Hill for the first time. It's brilliant on rainy day with a toddler. The playroom isn't massive but well kitted out. I think that's the first coffee I have been able to enjoy while out with the little one in ...

Doesn't insurance cover the cost of rebuilding the house? Valuation shouldn't really matter.

Re: A chocolate shop for Sydenham?

I think it would be a great addition to the high street! We need a good mix of shops. A chocolate shop would be a fab addition. I've sent them a note suggesting they consider Sydenham - Here's their facebook page if anyone else wants to drop them a line: https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Melange ...

Re: WHAT IF no 23: LA TIENDA

That looks really good, Lee. One of my favourite What Ifs to date. I would have thought the change would increase their trade by a lot. At the moment the shop disappears and they are probably missing out on a lot of custom.

Re: The Alexandra to become a hostel?

Sarah at Alexandra Nurseries will know the latest but my understanding is a bistro or pub serving food with short term accommodation upstairs. See here for Penge gossip http://www.virtualnorwood.com/forum/topic/13517-the-alexandra-late-knights/page-3 The community is hoping to get Late Knights ...

Re: Half-term activities

We love Cat's sessions in Mayow Park on Tuesdays! Really good value and she's amazing with the children. Ignore all the construction by the soon-to-be cafe, the sessions are still happening. I didn't realise she's also at Cafe Nene in Beckenham on Mondays at 10am. Always good fun.

This was one of my favourite pubs when I lived north of the river-

Tiny. The only thing on the food menu was a selection of pies. It was a great local- and very viable. Good mix of people, too.

Popped in today and it was quite lovely. There's a good selection of cakes and sandwiches, good coffee. It's definitely worth stopping by. They were also advertising a pop up Valentine's dinner which looked rather nice.

Re: Dad + toddler groups on Saturdays?

I wanted to add that there's a new group for Dads and their pre-schoolers at St John's church on Penge High Street. It's every third Saturday of the month from 9.00 to 1030. Apparently bacon sandwiches are served.

Great barber shop

Little Chrism just had his first hair cut at Ozzie's barber shop on Kent House Road (it's one of the shops on the parade by Lennard Road). Lovely place, newly refurbished and friendly staff. I highly recommend it. It's the borders of Sydenham, I guess, but waking distance. [ Post made via Mobile ...

Bluebell Woods- lovely new shop

There's a gorgeous new shop in the pop up space in Kent House Road which opened just a few weeks ago. Lovely vintage things, handmade presents and Christmas cards. It all looks like really high quality. Well worth a visit to welcome them to Sydenham. Great signage, too. [ Post made via Mobile Device ...
