Re: Duwayne Brooks will stand for mayor of Lewisham

I see. Yes I'm not in Lewisham anymore - not so up to date on these things. I read this short article and thought, "Wow! This could be great!" Ah well.
Thanks for the replies. I'll check him out on twitter etc.

Wanted: kids to judge a science book prize

Hello all

The Royal Society is looking for young people aged up to 14 to judge the winner of the Royal Society Young People's Book Prize.

http://royalsociety.org/sciencebooks/young-people/judges/

The idea is for young people from local schools or communities around the UK to get together and ...

Re: Would you volunteer to tutor disadvantaged young people?

Hello everyone

Just want to give this post a little bump and, for all the people who replied to me, to let you know that I haven't forgotten this project.

I've spoken to a couple of people at LB of Lewisham, and there is a faintly positive response. I think with some more pushing, it should be ...

Re: Local groups for lively 8 month old

Hi, there are lots of activities in the area.

Try Kelvin Grove children's centre - I think they have messy play on a Thursday morning, and there's toy library on a Friday (?) morning, and various other activities. Also Eliot Bank children's centre just up the road from there.

Kelvin Grove ...

Re: Hot Desk / Shared Office Space for One

Hi,
Not exactly what you were thinking of, but has she tried Dulwich Library?
There is a study room upstairs with free wifi and power points, seating space for maybe 50 people (?), and very quiet.
I am also a mum with young kids and I go there myself to get my work done in peace and with free wifi ...

Italian storytime at the bookshop?

Hello all,

Just wondering if there are any other families in Sydenham trying to raise their children bilingual English/Italian?

I was talking to Jonathon in Kirkdale bookshop today (who speaks some Italian).... As you may know, they run a weekly storytelling session for kids, on a Saturday at 10 ...

Re: Steel pan lessons for Children and Adults in South Norwo

This sounds great. I grew up in Trinidad and had plenty of opportunity to learn pan but just didn't have the patience! Maybe my kids will be more interested. What music are you going to be playing this weekend? Any chance of Pan in A Minor??

Hello forumnewbe and judi_coven,
thanks for your replies, I have sent you each a PM.
I have had several other responses to this post already which is very encouraging. Basically what I will do for the moment is keep a list of potential volunteers, and then speak to my boss about this idea in ...

Would you volunteer to tutor disadvantaged young people?

Hello all

I just wanted to float an idea here and see what the response is, please.

I work as a part-time tutor for London Borough of Lewisham, tutoring young people in foster care. The kids I see are usually aged between 14 and 16, and are preparing for their GCSEs. However, they tend to be from ...

Any marathoners want to travel together this Sunday?

Hello,
Any other runners taking public transport to Greenwich/Blackheath to get to the Start line this Sunday? I will be on my own and wouldn't mind some company!
Please PM me if you would like to travel together.

Anyone else doing the marathon?

Hi, just wondering who else in Sydenham is signed up for the London marathon next year? I'd quite like to find others to run with... I'm a first-timer and live in Lawrie Park Avenue.

(I know about the Crystal Palace fun running club and have spoken to Stuart, just thought I'd make a separate plug ...

Anyone else without water?

Just wondering if anyone else is without water at the moment? Our taps started spluttering a little while ago and now have run dry. I suppose some pipes have frozen over, or it might be related to the various roadworks in the area. I am on Lawrie Park Ave. Would be interested to know if anyone else ...

dave's prices

hello there
I don't remember exactly - around £20-ish/hour as they all do, but it gets cheaper if you can do daytimes and if you buy a block of ten lessons at a time.
hope that helps
