The coal merchant was definitely "Sawyer's", and there was a grocery store called "Clarks", I thought was at the end of Miall road, it was right opposite the toilets. I was about five at the time, so my geography might not be accurate, but I remember the names, Mr. Sawyer used to sit me on his horse ...

Anyone else remember the coal merchant, "Sawyer"s", right there at Bell Green. He used a horse and cart to deliver the coal in the 50s. The horse was called "Old Bill".

Old Ma Wandy had a little electrical appliance shop on Dartmouth Road, close to Kirkdale. The kids thought that she was a witch. I attended Kelvin Grove School in the 50s. Kilmorie was the school on Kirkdale, in front of the main Kelvin Grove building.
