Re: Sydenham vs Forest Hill
We live between Sydenham and Penge East and the roads here very quiet after dark. Lots of good houses, Venner Rd etc, and I'm sure totally safe, but you might not enjoy the walk home at night if you are of a nervous disposition.

Re: Sydenham Artisan Market - 2nd Saturday of the month
Caught the end of the market, and thought it was good, and a definite improvement on the last few I visited.
It would be good to see a greater variety of cold food/produce stalls, rather than just baked goods.
The craft stalls were a good variety of well presented, well made and unusual things. My ...

Re: Curtain/Blind Maker?
We had Roman blinds made by Designer Drapes, they did a good job. I did ask House of Carpets on the High St, but they said they couldn't do it - that was a couple of years ago, so don't know whether they now could.

Re: Front door- Where to buy?
We used this company www.sollex.co.uk for timber doors and windows and they were excellent and very good value, still working perfectly 3 years on. Only issue was neither the sales guy nor the fitters were 1st language English, so communication could have been better.

Re: Sydenham Artisan Market - 2nd Saturday of the month
I visited briefly, but didn't see any drumming unfortunately. The stalls were quite good, I bought food from the excellent Mishmash(?!) who have had a stall before so great to see them back again. The stalls again were corralled around the carbuncle bench, turning their back to the street which ...

Re: Playgrounds
My partner will laugh at me for pretending to be an authority on playgrounds, but here goes! Playground quality across the different boroughs does seem patchy. Crystal Palace is dire, but there are plenty good playgrounds in Bromley - Alexander Rec, Kelsey etc. Mayow is good, and that's Lewisham ...

Banners and bunting - yes!

Re: Sydenham Market - Saturday, 10th May
Good idea Lee about advertising banners, if anybody reading this has the power to do so, please make it happen! There is a banner in Herne Hill station advertising the HH market, it gets my attention and am sure lots of others who pass through.

I turned up late, spent little time looking and bought nothing so apologies if my observations don't reflect how things actually went on the day!

Re: The Alexandra to become a hostel?
Eagle, the application states that the accomodation is targeted at professionals on short stay, business conferences etc. Apparently the location near Penge East station makes it ideal, and the developer specialies in this kind of accomodation.

Re: The Alexandra to become a hostel?
If the delveloper is genuine and honourable (oxymoron I know), then I think this has the potential to be positive - bringing life back to an old building that would otherwise deteriorate..

Re: SYDENHAM'S POCKET PARKS
How about a regular market, you know like an London Albert Square type market, on alternate weeks to a farmers and craft type market perhaps. It might not be posh in the way most of us on the forum would like, but it would be colourful and lively, and probably popular.
