Re: Local Train Services

I think I would wait for the details of the restoration of the service to East Croydon before getting too excited. Will it be peak time only (say 2 hrs in morning and evening Mon-Fri), or be wider. Length of trains etc. We shall see.

Re: Local Train Services

It would also help if the Southern short routes (e.g. running with Zone 1-4) and the Overground was all part of an overall London suburban "metro" service as then there might be more chance of of more sensible length trains when the Overground is out. As it is, I guess that Southern are not overly ...

Re: TfL rules out regular London Overground trains to London Bridge

If I need to go to Gatwick I tend to go (from Hon Oak) to London Bridge and go from there, once I have Overground to West Croydon and tram to East Croydon. Admitttedly I have over 60 pass which helps re chopping anf changing. But of course there should be 4 Southern trains an hour, 2 to Victoria, 2 ...

Re: No East Croydon/Sydenham/London Bridge rail service as of September?

Sincere best wishes for the petition. I think the fundamental probem is that 2 trains per hour is not enough on the Southern route,, it needs to go back to 4 trains perhour (2 Victoria, 2 East Croydon). But little sign of this - it seems to be the case of you have got the Overground (which ...

Re: No East Croydon/Sydenham/London Bridge rail service as of September?

I went to a Zoom with Vicky Foxcroft and Southern back in March (I think) there is a follow on in September 14/9 which I can't go to as am on hols. Vicky's office has provided an update from Southern: "We are planning a change to Southern services from Sunday 4th September. What this means from the ...

Re: No Southern Rail to London Bridge

The London Bridge to East Croydon has ben reinstated, though the future of the London Bridge to London Victoria is much less certain. The latter could perhaps go to TfL, but given their funding problems, this seems unlikely. There is next week a call between Vicky Foxcroft MP and Southern and those ...

No Southern Rail to London Bridge

I expect people have noticed that there is no service from Sydenham/Forest Hill/Honor Oak Paark to London Bridge. According to Southern this is down to Covid and staff absences, and we should not expect trains until around 20 February. We shall see. I do wonder whether there is a risk that this ...

Re: Train services - Southern - disruption till 10th January

No update that I am aware. I fear Southern is not particuarly fussed about our line as they are interested in longer routes and will view the Overground as providing cover. It will be more difficult if the work from home gets removed at end January. Perhaps we need to write to MPs, London Mayor ...

Re: Mail

Am in Honor Oak and its the same. It was the same last year, parcels only, no letters for a week so I resorted to going to the Delivery Office to pick up the mail (taking passport and proof of address, I got the mail, only to find the posties were back the next day!). Aside from the fact that ...

Re: Reduced Southern service

It is very disappointing, I suspect that Southern are concentrating on the longer commute routes and the "metro" service from London Bridge to Victoria is simply not a priority. They would would probably argue that we have the Overground (true, but they are crowded and the interchange at Canada ...

Re: Masks after 19th

I should say on masks I go for the behind the head version rather than over the ears, partly as I have hearing aids , glasses. I find them more convenient and there is less of the taking the mask out of the pocket etc, I can wear the mask a little bit like a crevatte or snood. and pull up when ...

Re: Masks after 19th

I wear masks in transport and in supermarkets as it is considerate to do so. That said, I wonder how useful masks are as their effectiveness is severely diminished by taking them on/off, touching them etc. How effective is a blue mask hurriedly put on / off when getting on / off bus / going into ...

Re: how to get out of this mess

What I would like to see the Government do is to be honest and state that you cannot go back to a level of risk which is pre COVID. What I mean by this is no matter how long lockdown lasts, the return to more normal life cannot be risk free. So looking at the vaccination programme when do you lift ...

Re: how to get out of this mess

Yes, I agree the "let COVIS rip" concept is nonsensical and would lead to the collapse of the NHS which would impact cancer treatment etc. What I think should be said though that there is no good outcome when something like COVID19 happens, any action will have adverse impacts. On R4 last year there ...

Yup, I seem to be permanently banned as well. Mind, if "the official" SE23 site is cutting and pasting police posts from one site to another are they breaking the law? It feels like they are giving the appearance of the Safer Neighbourhood Team posting on that site when they are not. Mind the ...

Re: Commuting from Sydenham to London Bridge

Hi, At the time you are talking about in the am you would be OK to London Bridge (its the Overground trains to Canada Water that are rammed) and if Southern trains ran properly (every 15 mins), not too bad in the evening peak as 10 coach trains. However, you will probably have read about the bitter ...

Re: Jim Dowd speaks on Southern in Parliament

Wish I could see any improvement but I cannot. As far as I can see, both Southern and the unions have contempt for the travelling public. I do not see any improvement in 2017. Its a management/ union battle and the travelling public are "collateral damage". Don't expect any change soon.
