The problem is that pubs are very easy to turn into shops, estate agents and funeral directors because of the classification that they have in planning law.
It is clear to me that an established pub, especially a pub on a site that has hosted a pub for donkeys years, should have a different usage ...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
The Bridge House Tavern does have a large outdoors area.
The Greyhound is in a great location for a pub - there's nothing that side of the station for a quick drink (I hesitate to call the Railway a pub...). As long as it is a decent quality establishment, not a naff limited range pub anyway ...

Re: Will you use the new Greyhound Pub?
Greyhounds only.
Maybe the Florence brewery is looking to expand. The Paxton in Gypsy Hill is quite nice, and maybe they could do the same for the Greyhound.
Walked past today and I could see the walls were going back up, and a big hole for the conservatory. I do worry that the interior will be ...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
Isn't residences over a pub a rather standard feature, a place for the landlord to live - also that helps with insurance. If the place goes as a pub, I bet a flat will go with it.

Might be a bit late but my friend was very impressed with Aussie Man With Van - doesn't sound very local though!

Re: Moving to Sydenham
Although I have just moved away from Upper Sydenham, the fact that I am still in Upper Norwood (albeit the other side of Crystal Palace) is testament to the general quality of the area.
Sydenham is smack bang in the middle of several good places for what I call "early-middle aged nights out, aka ...

A GBK would do no harm to Sydenham, at least their milkshakes are pretty good!
Also, have you considered the Florence Brewery, owners(?) of The Paxton down in Gypsy Hill?

Re: Potholes all over Syenham High Street
Whatever happened to the high street regeneration project?
I've noticed lots of new road surfaces in the area - Lawrie Park Road, Dartmouth Road, etc, so things are being done elsewhere.

I'm sure the actual buildings in many parts are an extra storey over what is depicted in those mockups.

Re: Evading the fares at the station
Unlikely, back then there were no gates, etc, you could just walk through and onto the train. Of course the fares weren't so ridiculous back then so maybe there was less incentive to fare dodge.Eagle wrote:Fare evading was very rare in my younger days. What is happening.

Recommended removals companies
Hi all,
Before putting my trust in the results of google search, I thought it would be worth asking who do people here recommend for local house moves (just moving a few miles, but there's a whole bunch of stuff to move)?
Cheers!

Hi,
Graham - thank you for offer - We would love the list of items you have, even the 1U rackmount case, I have a use for this. We are installing computers into the largest sheltered home in Europe next month and will need this for this project.
Rachel - This has gone to Deptford Pepys resource ...

Re: CROWS in Crystal Palace Park (a film)
I walk through the park every morning so see a lot of the wildlife there, including the woodpeckers occasionally (they're good at hiding). The crows enjoy hopping around.

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
I think the building is too small for a Wetherspoons, however it is a good size for a Sam Smiths, and a good location for them being fairly close to their pub in Anerley.

Two old style pubs (Hollybush and Alma) closed over the last year or so up the hill in Crystal Palace but have re-opened as the Sparrowhawk and ..... wait for it..... The Alma. Both are significantly different in decor and ambience [/quote]

opps- sorry i voiced my opinion-again! I really must stop doing that.
It's very hard for something to cater for everyone that might be interested in it, and in this case the pub can't cater for drivers due to its situation, even those that would have a reason to be driving and pubbing ...

Hi Darren,
I have a couple of PCs that I would like to donate.
- A 1.466 GHz Athlon XP, Radeon 9500, in blue tower case.
- A Mini-ITX system - 800MHz VIA EPIA. It's a bit slow. Case is quite nice.
- I also have a 1U black rackmount case, don't ask me why, but you can have that too if you can make ...

Re: What is the best Indian restaurant around Sydenham?
We've had an excellent delivered takeaway from the Yak and Yeti in Crystal Palace, and they have a restaurant. The Ghurka in C.P. isn't great. The modern place opposite Westow House is a little chilli-oriented rather than flavour-oriented. The Crystal Palace Tandoori was a good takeaway too, and ...
