Re: RIP somerandombloke

His presence will be missed by me. I felt his post provided down to earth balance. I too wish I'd met him for a pint. Condolences to his, and those whose lives he touched.

Re: Not sure what the problem is.

I think the voices of many other forum readers should have been given a chance to be heard... I doubt many would have bothered. I often start to post, then scratch the idea. This time I watched in horror and disbelief. After an absence and reformation, Eagle appears to have returned to form. Sad ...

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings

Out of interest, was it just Stuart, Robin, and me attending from this forum? (genuine question) After all this debate about who is or is not on the panel was it really just the three of us who bothered to go along? I arrived a little after 19:45, bicycle mechanical failure. There was no room at ...

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings

I have just emailed Jim@JimDowd.org.uk telling him that this household will not be voting for any candidate who refuses to face his constituents (and copying our local councillors). Hope this may encourage him, or get others to encourage him, to re-consider his decision by tonight. A few more might ...

My reasons for lurking are.... On several occasions, useful and serious threads were quickly derailed. Others were littered with inappropriate and unsympathetic responses (the cat mauling springs to mind). Prejudice was often pushed as fact, facts and evidence ignored. I don’t recall Eagle ever b ...

Re: Pedestrian Safety at Bell Green

Sorry to see I’m not the only one who’s noticed the lack of planning for pedestrians at the retail park. Absurdly there are crossings in the car parks, but nothing on the approach. I often think about bringing this up with someone, but have no idea where to start.

Re: GPs in Sydenham

For Sydenham green (as mentioned somewhere else on the forum), sign-up to EMIS patient access. You can often get appointments that aren't available by phone. For non urgent appointments they're often available next day, and definitely same week. Ask at the surgery.

Re: Plea to Cyclists

I often advise fellow cyclists the batteries in their lights need replacing (dull lights are almost as bad as none), or that their panniers are obscuring the rear light. Possibly excessive, I have lights on the bike, helmet and my person! It's not just cyclists, I've had countless near misses whilst ...

Re: Is It Faster to Cycle or Take Public Transport?

Cycling in Sydenham is not for the faint hearted. Not sure about that but coming home in the evening there is a notable drop in the standard of driving as soon as you enter Lewisham. Majority of my near misses have taken place in Peckham. Nice thread :D [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http ...

Re: Is It Faster to Cycle or Take Public Transport?

It may be quicker and safer to go by the cycle route which crosses the railway by the footbridge Eddystone Road / Brockley Rise [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://sydenham.org.uk/mobile.png Thats the route I take. Fairly quiet, until Old Kent Road, then I nip into Bermondsey, until I reach ...

Re: Is It Faster to Cycle or Take Public Transport?

25 minutes to Fenchurch Street,, less on the rare occasions the lights are with me. 45 by foot and train, the walk both ends takes almost as long as the ride. Earnt myself a "door prize" four weeks ago, resulting injuries have me using the train. Journey too fragmented, and stages too short for a ...

Re: Too Many Estate Ants - what about Betting Shops?

It's Licencing at Lewisham, not Planning. Objections can be made on the following grounds only • To prevent gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime • To ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way • To p ...

Re: Too Many Estate Ants - what about Betting Shops?

Too many estate agents – what about betting shops? Strong objections are being made to Lewisham Council who are hidebound by these ridiculous regulations. If anyone else wants to voice their objections, bearing in mind the restricted grounds for objection, these should be with the council by 2 S ...

Re: Sydenham under a new flight path?

This thread clearly wasn't started in order to debate the merits or otherwise of Heathrow expansion, but to discuss the recent increase in aircraft noise, particularly early morning. Once again as there was no argument to be had, Eagle derails the thread for his own nefarious end. Posted in the Town ...
