Re: Intergenerational injustice

Summerbreeze - it's true - I don't know as much about what you do as I could, but I'm learning from what you write. I think the main difference between us is that you're saying everyone should be involved with running an organisation, and I'm saying every one should be able to see how organisations ...

Re: Intergenerational injustice

Summerbreeze - the problem is not getting councillors to let people know they are there for the wider community - the vast majority really are, and all will say they are. Their problem is explaining how the Council works - what they as councillors can and cannot do, where the money comes from, what ...

Re: Intergenerational injustice

Can anyone suggest a plausible political strategy whereby the young can be persuaded to engage politically, and stop this injustice? My View is Tim, like many generations before us we keep making the same mistakes in believing youth don’t have a mind that adults know best. In asking adults how to g ...

Re: My take on London's Riots

I read the OP comments with interest. Before I make my comments I would like to say I don’t condone what has happened, it does however sadden me that this has happened in England and more so when my 14 year old daughter texted me on Monday when she was out saying “Mummy I am scared”. I have always be ...

Sorry peeps a little rant about committees.

I just frequent these forums as I live in Sydenham and have an interest in the community I live. I read many threads with interest but I keep my views to myself generally as I find a lot of what goes on here can be politically driven and not always in the best interest in the community it is set out ...

Re: What is a community

Hi marymck, I would totally agree with your post, we have to concider the impact we have on others, that should be a basic human trait, sadly not always the case. Looking into my living room I personally don't have a problem with lilac and puple I think I was born a little to late to call myself a ...

Re: Primary schools/pre-schools in Sydenham

As a parent of three teenagers raised now that have been to primary locally my judgement was made by just going around the schools in the morning watch the childrens reactions when the bell goes and they have to part with their parent and enter school. I based my choice on that, not ofsted or stats ...

What is a community

After reading another thread on this website got me wondering what a community means to many. My views on community is a place that welcomes a diversity of people from different backgrounds offering all new ideas and old ideas on how to make the community a better place for all. I believe a great ...

Re: Vote For Kirkdale Village Logo

Is a community all about just the people that live there?
I like the idea that people that might just work here are trying to improve the area I live in too.
People will always find 100 reasons why something will not work. It takes the belief and passion of one to make it happen.
Good luck

Re: 2 muggings at knife point in Silverdale

This is so sad. I lived in Sydenham in the early 70's and as a young girl would often walk home down from Sydenham Station, alone at about 10 o'clock without fearing anyone, as I'd got a train home from an evening job in a West End Theatre. Never a moment's worry, no phone, no worry for parents ...

Calm down Robin, I'm not mocking you. I was actually mocking myself. I apologize if you thought otherwise. I'd never mock the elderly, although I enjoy a good banter with my grandparents. I totally agree with you about truth, beauty and virtue. But I believe Waitrose are about those things. The ...

That's Amore in Kirkdale has in the past years catered on christmas day I have never tried it over christmas but know of others that have. I have been on other evenings and always love the ambience of the place you would never think you were in Sydenham but somewhere aboard.
