Amidst the many podcasts I listen to I heard one recently asserting that current agripractice can feed 10bn people. In many areas the problem is poor infrastructure (transport, storage etc). The truly scary looming problem appears to be degradation and exhaustion of groundwater. Sooner or later we ...

I agree. The politicians etc who make the policy dont live at our level. The British are neither uniquely tolerant or intolerant. Adjusting to the arrival of lots of people from other cultural traditions is easy when you can ignore the negative aspects. I don't think its racist as plenty of black ...

The BNP leadership are almost certainly a nasty bunch. However they are just a pimple. Its the pus beneath which is a concern. Regardless of all the facts re pop density etc (I doubt if 'all' experts agree. They never do) It feels / seems more and more crowded here. One reason may be that our pop ...

Although I never celebrated it as a kid one thing can be said for Halloween. It is certainly safer than Guy Fawkes night. Ah. Maybe Halloween in its modern guise is a Papist plot to make us forget and forgive Signor Fawkes ?! One can only imagine Milton's or Bunyan's reaction if whisked forward in ...

Did greed EVER come with conscience ? It's not unique to our time. Crass commercialisation ? I agree but its subjective. One person's crass is another's informative/entertaining/fulfilling. I'm sure when xmas trees were introduced the same accusations could be heard. I'm 52 and I understand that ...

So 'the modern world is full...(of) pointlessnes, greed and profit for it's own sake' ? The modern (western) world is full of people who are healthier and safer than we have ever been. If our celebrations seem frivolous so what ? I'm sure that in the days when disease, poverty and no social welfare ...

Halloween is now established in the UK so its pointless arguing against it.Its an old European event but obviously Americanised now. I think the prohibition and or expense of private Guy Fawkes night celebrations has left a space for it. Also to be honest if you're a kid its a lot of fun. Its very ...

Roadworks
I was tempted to post 'road doesnt works '. The situation re the crossing at Mayow Rd/ Sydenham Rd/ Girton Rd is absurd. As a partially sighted individual I am grateful to the council for help offered but on this issue...FAIL !!! How much longer will I have to use either the stupidly timed crossing ...

Dont worry when it reappears in its entirety it will get knocked out and replaced by some sort of plastic rubbish In the 70's, I believe, a piece ot the vertical marble facia there came away and fell on someone! I still remember the blood on the pavement. Mind you in '87 venturing out for batteries ...

Do not think one of Sydenham's most popular surgeries That is my surgery and Dr Dhanji (i think) was my Dr. Followed by Dr Ahmad who, I heard, was deported ! They started out in Tannsfeld Rd. And ...
