Re: Local pre schools

My children have all attended St Bart's Pre-School which meets in the church hall at the back of St Bart's Church on Westwood Hill. The environment is very calm and nurturing and has provided each of my children with an excellent 'learning through play' start to their education. Definately worth a ...

Re: Hotels/guest houses/B and Bs SE26 and beyond

My Grandmother and aunt stayed at the Astra Palace hotel a couple of years ago and said that it was very basic, but clean and very good value for money.

Re: WHAT IF no 13: BILLINGS Fishmongers & butchers

A great addition to Sydenham Road. The recipe of the week idea is great for those of us who lack creativity in the fish-cooking department. I also appreciated having the additional ingredients all in the same place - it's like having a mini Waitrose on our doorstep! The display looked beautiful and ...

The Three Musketeers

What a great production! We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening last night watching an excellent performance of swashbuckling fun. The puppetry was very effective and well executed, particularly in the second half and the director made great use of the garden. We particularly enjoyed the way that ...

So Lewisham now has 543 x 4 year olds without a Reception place in September/January, according to the South London Press.

But is it a case for an increase in the birth rate? I can't find any evidence...

What if more Lewisham parents are choosing to apply for Lewisham places and not Southwark ...

The main problem is that there are more 4 year olds due to start school this coming academic year than there are reception places. Presumably this is something that the council, and indeed our government, should have been aware of 3-4 years ago and didn't take time to plan for properly.

But we do need a local survey about sydenham high street, and the local area, to see what is needed, what can be done, what should be done, and about who uses the high street, when, and where.

There were a couple of surveys that were carried out in 2006/2007 as part of the research for putting ...

A new restaurant will always be welcome, but I'm afraid that I agree with some of the others here and don't think that another pizza restaurant is necessarily the right way to go.

When we moved here 6 years ago there was an interesting Turkish restaurant which seemed to be doing OK when another ...

For pre-schoolers there is now loads going on in and around Sydenham thanks to the Children's Centres that operate out of Eliot Bank and Kelvin Grove - toy libraries, music groups, etc. as well as sports sessions in local parks (TeachSport run a session on Thursday mornings at Sydenham Wells Park ...

We really like Papa John's in Catford who deliver. You can choose either thin crust or original (thick) which suits both me and LeHibernis. We tried a few pizza takeaways around Sydenham and this one is our firm favourite. I would avoid the sides though.

Of course for tasty local eat-in pizza ...

After hearing a light thud on my cat flap the other night, I found a frog spreadeagled across it with his friend sitting on the step watching. It made me smile. :D

...I'm interested to know how pubs price their food and why eating in the Dolphin for a 2 course pre-theatre menu is as expensive as a pre-theatre menu in Covent Garden
It was a little on the small side but then £13 for 3 courses seemed pretty good value to us - unless you're used to going to ...
